I like stories that end with the castle crumbling down and the sunlight shining through, or the characters fly away into the horizon.

I've worked on an anthology, written a comic book, and many short stories. Now I just need to get something published.

So, among my Steam sale haul were a few things that just looked FASCINATING but I couldn't quite get a handle on at a glance.

I just had my first poke around Twilight Epoch, which is like... a low-fi anti-formalist experimental boomshoot/blobber JRPG hybrid with a lot of dense, flowery prose???
Save 25% on Twilight Epoch on Steam
A science-fantasy FPS-RPG, taking a party of characters on a story-rich journey through a galaxy on the brink of extinction.

Revisiting Tomb Raider Legend in 2025 is paying off immensely. It’s a good preview for my 2026 which will be almost entirely a retrospective year of filling in gaps and replaying old favourites

I hate this type of meme so much because it's always "damn it's a shame nobody makes this kind of game any more... no I will not scroll past the front page of steam to check"

Saw a comment calling the Whale Probe in Star Trek 4 Lovecraftian and rather than bother some poor stranger I will inanely vent that it is very clearly more of an Arthur C. Clarke’s Rendezvous with Rama sort of thing

A reminder that The Escapist that people remembered does not exist anymore. Almost all the core staff packed up and left. Most reformed as Second Wind, which is doing decent work.

The Escapist now exists to promote online gambling and act as a mouthpiece for unhinged venture capitalists. Let it die
The Escapist accused Blue Prince developer Dogubomb of using generative AI. This is patently false and an utterly gross accusation.

The story has since been amended, but the damage has been done. You can search out the current version if you want, but here’s the original.

One of the dumbest things about Harry Potter that ended up infecting a lot of other stories is the idea of the friends you make in school are the ones that follow you throughout your whole life.

Thanks for listening! I haven’t and am embarrassed to say it turns out I already own it and just never got to it. 🫣 no promises but I’ll install it so I don’t forget it completely. Is it good?

Hi there, long time listener (on MinnMax) first time skeeter-er, I would really like to ask, in your status as a platformer-knower, have you played and/or discussed Promenade?

Ideas are not a resource that the games industry needs generated. You cannot shoot a nerf gun into a studio and miss someone without a thousand great ideas. It's never been a problem for any of us. Just ask us.

Fuck sake you evil bastards just admit you don't want to pay for staff.

things are so so so so so much worse for the lower half in this economy because the things exploding the most (healthcare, housing, food, heating) are the most inflexible parts of a small budget, and they're already maxxed out and spending very efficiently, so any slip is loss of something material
people for whom housing is 15% of income just literally cant imagine the world of people whose housing is 50% of income, and everyone needs 2k calories a day no matter the wealth. cpi just isnt really that meaningful in this discussion

there's a hauntological element to CGI movies looking like dark, out-of-focus ass; a sensation that the technology has stalled, and so you watch one of the Avatar movies and it looks like it's from a universe where that shit never happened, it's easy to see why dumb guys think pandora is real

Truth be told, most game cutscenes have more in common with theatre than movies because real time rendering means compositing isn't really a thing and you want to catch as much of the stuff in (virtual) camera as possible to avoid unneccessary rendering passes

I think “Wind Waker with Outlines” would have looked a lot like how DQ8 turned out. Level5 studio was already into the cel-ish look before but the Zelda envy multiplied in DQ8 (I think the way Overworld exploration works in DQ8 is because of Ocarina of Time, for example)
Was always fascinated that wind waker avoided the second most defining style feature of the (at the time, fairly new) cel shading look, outlines. I think it was the right choice for the game but i'm kinda curious hoe it would have looked with 'em
