People assume so much is simple in gaming experiences, but they need to sometimes watch someone do the things that are second nature to you, like try to simply use a shoulder button for the first time when most pads have four of those.

It really is one of those games where everyone is so busy looking at what they did wrong that it's easy to miss al the clever stuff that works
I'm pretty impressed by how well these gears get across the idea of more complex geometry using only diffuse textures in castlevania 64

Whenever i make sushi at home, i like trying out new combos for one or two vegetarian rolls, because those tend to be quite welcome at 'everyone bring some food' get togethers with a wide mix of people

one thing I do with most (not the most recent) of my essays is assume that every single person reading is a neurosurgeon... who doesn't know anything about games, but is bright enough to understand concepts quickly. It's part of WHY I explain so much in my essays. They should be self-contained.
Speakers, don’t assume the knowledge level of your audience. If you have a new person there and you say “I assume everyone here is familiar with this” they don’t learn anything and they probably feel bad about themselves. Better to just explain the thing. The people who are familiar with it can deal

how did it take me this long to realize the reason for jill's strapless outfit in RE3 was to show off the improved mesh weighting on shoulders (ada wong also had non-segmented shoulders in RE2, but before that all limbs were mushed together segments, which is why jill has shoulder pads in RE1)

Watched Del Toro's Frankenstein yeasterday and thought it was absolutely great,
my only minor quibbles were Mia Goth's character arc feeling a bit rushed in the 2nd half and the cartoonishly agressive wolves feeling a bit out of sync with the already heigthened vibe of the rest of the storytelling

it's unbelievable that there aren't decent 3D level editors in active development.
you'd be hard-pressed to find a more high-impact, highly-historically-explored, yet under-served problem space in gamedev tooling today

Mabel Normand and Charlie Chaplin brawl in MABEL'S BUSY DAY (1914). Normand directed this frenetic comedy and clearly has a ball mixing it up with the boys.
