Art director for Rain Games, makers of the (Annie Award nominated!) Teslagrad franchise, World To The West, Mesmer and Girl Genius:AICH. Personal account, posts may contain dad jokes.
the king in teslagrad was insanely tropey and literally based on nikola tesla's death mask visually, but he's still probably the best villain i'll ever direct because "dying, mentally fading person in power doing literally everything necessary to keep their status" just keeps getting more relevant

the guy who orders the hits in ben wheatley's "kill list" eerily looks like an unbalanced mix of trump and biden

this giant asshole (Grettir) got shipwrecked on the island i grew up on around 1000 years ago and he was enough of an asshole that people still talk about him. so much that i based one of the characters in teslagrad 2 on him

but borgnine's wide grin and eye glint, that could be used effectively for good or despicable characters, was the main keystone

Ernest Borgnine, then aged 95

(his strong facial features were a big influence on the character design for Tychoon in our game World To The West)

Dr. Jekyll from inUtero's 2010 game "Jekyll and Hyde" looks like a slightly cruel caricature of a young Tom Waits

Still convinced Art the clown from the "Terrifier" movies' look is at least partly based on Marcel Marceau

some images(via r/moviesinthemaking)from the construction of the death star miniatures in star wars. i always find movie miniatures to be great references for adding "there's something there but you can't quite tell what it is"details to skybox scenes and digital kitbashes for baking down to texture

it's extra good if you can use parallax displacement (we're on unity urp and height maps there aren't really worth it as they tend to look weird and don't really change the silhouette of the object)
