This is a really good reason to go back out on the street and protest, to stay peaceful in the face of escalating suppression by feds and law enforcement and even the national guard: when you see someone put their body on the line to protect their country, it puts your cowardice to shame.

This is the thing that people who didn't grow up in Portland don't understand about umbrellas. The rain in Portland comes in a dizzying variety, so we have a lot of strategies to deal with it. Umbrellas are only appropriate for a specific kind of rain.

I'm working on a research project for my new job. It involves a lot of Wikipedia and chasing down the sources to get more details. I am both shocked by the link rot in the citations and also grateful that it seems to be SOP for Wikipedia to link web archive these days.

This isn't wrong on the aggregate level. "Fentanyl is a policy failure" is a narrative in the media and a legal fiction to justify tariff policy. As for actual drug users, they're treated by the public and by law enforcement as a plague and a nuisance.
Not the first person to make this observation, but it's so striking how the media covered the crack epidemic as a problem caused by black/urban drug users and the fentanyl epidemic as a problem imposed externally on white/rural drug users.
