The fact that I could have believed this says something about our society
ok i didn't actually think the Trump/Clinton thing was real but some of his old tweets *are* a little strange in retrospect

Didn't want to hijack another person's eggcorn post but it reminded me my son used to sing

I wanna be the very best
Like no one ever was
To catch them is my real test
To train them in my car

Everything I've seen about the games industry sounds like an amped up version of the VFX/animation industry where applicants and employees are treated like crap and must put up with it or else people call them whiners for complaining about a "dream job", and many even internalize and believe that
3 years ago today, Riot Games offered me a job making more money than I ever thought I’d make in my life. I had 19 interviews over 2.5 months to get it. Partner and I were moving to LA for it. I put in notice at my job and apartment.

2 weeks later they rescinded the offer due to “headcount issues”.

The story is interesting I guess but the writer sounded familiar and it's the guy that was suspended for sexually harassing 5 women in 2017 and I guess it's not really my business but I was kind of surprised I guess it's just back to normal now
The stalled investigation into the planting of pipe bombs outside the Republican Party headquarters in Washington, D.C., the night before Jan. 6, 2021, has become another obsession of the far right that threatens the unity of President Trump’s coalition.
Far Right’s Fixation on Jan. 6 Pipe Bomb Suspect Reaches F.B.I.’s Top Ranks
For all his bluster, the F.B.I.’s deputy director Dan Bongino played a central role in stoking expectations that the bureau would quickly find the suspects who planted pipe bombs.

This is a good point to bring up when people make that complaint because it ferrets out and makes them say what they're really thinking which is "some disabilities are real and some are fake"
I could beat Stephen Hawking in a physics test if he didn't get any accommodations. That doesn't make me the better physicist.
A lot of education discourse is at root an inability to decide whether the purpose of our education system is to 1) teach material and measure learning 2) reward students who work hard 3) separate the smart kids (destined for smart guy jobs) from the dumb kids (destined to serve the smart guys)
November 15, 2025 at 7:14 PM
They really don't have any good ones?
November 15, 2025 at 6:36 PM
Yeah you would think the goal of education is to give important knowledge and techniques to as many people as possible but the way a lot of people (parents especially) want to approach it is a competition where the goal is to "win" and they get mad if you touch rankings or level the playing field
Not to lay my cards on the table but I think this narrow focus in online discourse on who deserves to be rewarded really elides the actual societal value of the education system (teaching members of society important stuff that it's valuable for them to know)

I've seen this story from Deadline and now Variety here and since they're movie industry publications they prioritize referencing people by what Hollywood productions they acted in, most famous movie or show first. I think they think podcasts are beneath them, or at least out of scope
I watched every episode of this show and have no idea who she is. We’ve got to insist on actors reaching a certain level of fame before they have their diva insanity phase.
"Nekrasova has made controversial statements in the past. In a 2023 New Yorker story, she was quoted as saying, “Francis is not the real Pope, we all know it. … You’re not gonna get rid of the Freemasons. You’re not gonna get rid of the Jews. They infiltrated the Church a long time ago.”"

I don't understand the argument "she's only being treated like this because she's a woman," like everyone wouldn't roast a male reporter for having sex with RFK Jr while reporting on him? Really? Are you sure?

It's always interesting to me how for some people it's more comforting to believe a bad guy is in charge than to believe no one is

Great job Washington Post, now the orcas know where to find him
A harbor seal narrowly escaped a group of orcas by climbing aboard a boat rented by amateur wildlife photographer Charvet Drucker off Camano Island in Washington.

Broke: "Idiocracy" was a documentary

Woke: "I Know An Old Lady That Swallowed a Fly" was a documentary
Olivia Nuzzi got sent in to do a profile but it turned out she wanted to fuck the subject so we sent in Jacob Bernstein to profile her and it turns out he also wants to fuck the subject
you can’t be putting this in the paper (gift link but i do not recommend you use it www.nytimes.com/2025/11/14/s...)

When people are arguing about something important and a third person comes in to "defuse the tension with a little humor" that pisses me off even more

A lot of people are saying "illegal immigrants" are too poor to buy houses and sure of course but even if they weren't, buying a house puts you through the most intrusive paperwork scrutiny most people experience in their life which pairs up great with being "undocumented"
JD Vance: "A lot of young people are saying housing is way too expensive. Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants who were taking houses that ought by right go to American citizens."

What's weird to me is the number of people replying to this that don't know who catturd is, like making fun of his username like they just heard it for the first time. I mean that's fine, that's great for them and their mental health, I just assumed most people on here were grizzled Twitter veterans
The funniest thing about Twitter these days is that right wing dipshits still think their content is being suppressed by some unseen liberal forces.

Elon Musk has owned the site for over three years now.

I don't like it when someone becomes a Main Character and then everyone who has never heard of them starts digging around to find if this person is on Our Side or what Type Of Guy they are to decide on their response, and usually doing a really sloppy job misreading old posts and falling for rumors

This is such a weirdly organized form. Like I get why it's on the form but I feel like it should be in a different section from the diseases

To be honest I hate both of these styles but reluctantly admit I'd rather have the one I can actually understand
Every office has an executive tier whose emails are like:

saw on news , , can we replce complianc dept with web 3

and a worker tier whose emails are like:

Dear Jim,
First of all, I *love* this idea! Unfortunately, I spoke with Legal and identified a few issues with this approach. For starters…
Well, it's a little clearer now why billionaires are so invested in technology that produces better written emails.

That's interesting that the randomly generated project names + commit hashes on app hosting services read as "Russian hackers". Something for the ol product teams to think about

What's the longest string of As you've seen a business name start with that was obviously created back when people still looked up plumbers and tow services in the yellow pages. I saw one with 5 the other day but I'm sure that's not close to the record

I don't have to pay my spouse any fees to have a glass of wine with me

Also most voters have just never thought remotely seriously about policy. “Should we get rid of illegal immigrants? Well, of course; they’re illegal!” There’s nothing deeper than that going on until they start seeing what that actually entails.
Some Dems and pundits overread the significance of Trump's win. They looked at dissatisfaction with the border and discerned a seismic cultural reaction to immigration levels inside the country. The former was real. The latter is a mirage.
