One thing I wish people understood about authoritarianism is life often looks more or less the same. Troops aren’t marching down the street every day; people go to restaurants, have their office jobs. But everyone knows that stepping out of line, even slightly, can derail your life with no recourse

This elderly man showed up to support an anti-trans bill in my home state and then, because he had to wait hours to testify, he was stuck listening to queer folks rally against it

By the time it was his turn to speak, he'd changed his mind

Never doubt that speaking out can change hearts and minds

And practice joy. Something in struggling with right now after being laid off.

But fascist hate seeing us joyful. Because they thrive on fear.

Joy is an act of defiance. And you’ve got to have some along with hope to survive this. I should listen to my own words too.
Not all resistance has to be boots on the ground. There are small ways we can all resist.

Wear a mask
Donate to mutual aid
Support libraries, food banks & community fridges

Fascism thrives when people are misinformed, scared & divided.

Being informed, united & helping one another IS resistance

This administration illegally denied hundreds of people due process, then deported them to a country they’ve never known, run by an authoritarian infamous for cruel treatment of prisoners.

They then deceived a federal judge to buy time for the planes to land so he couldn’t do anything about it.
A timeline of how the Trump administration raced to use the Alien Enemies Act yesterday, delivering 250 Venezuelan people to El Salvador's brutal prison system without any chance to defend themselves, just before a judge could stop the planes.

Mark is beloved by millions of kids, which makes it particularly great that he’s teaching them how to inform their parents that Tesla is a danger to children. This is another one of those “we don’t need a ‘Rogan of the left’, we need normal men” examples.

Fun fact! When the Nazis were looking for templates for their horrible fucking laws, guess where they went looking! Yes! That's right! The US Jim Crow laws!

So, yes. Fucking Jim Crow, yes.
I just wish #yall would signal boost the Black people who are telling you this is Jim Crow more than you signal boost the non-black people who are saying it's Nazi Germany.

I know why you won't though. . .

The public domain is there for a reason BUT NO
Here's the sad part...

AI technology is not inherently based on piracy and plagiarism. It's just that to stay ahead companies create databases and use training that relies on stolen writing and artworks in order to be competitive.

It could have been so much different.

I'm talking to YOU hospital administrators.

Stop complying in advance with anti-trans temper tantrums on paper.

You owe it to the trans kids you serve to fight for their right to care, not fold at the first salvo.
"We owe it to trans youth and communities to push back with all our might, to refuse to deny care, to challenge administrators who try to shut it down, to support providers under attack, and to contribute to mutual aid efforts that will ensure continuity of care." @dreanyc123.bsky.social
If you're reeling from Trump's ongoing attacks, please check out my latest piece about what trans people are up against and how we (as in, all of us, including doctors and clinicians) can resist these assaults. Includes commentary from @dreanyc123.bsky.social and @deanspade.bsky.social.

Please, please listen, I am literally begging you:

I'm a healthcare lawyer who is alive because of Medicaid. I just came from Hill meetings about Medicaid. I'm very plugged into "the groups" — if you're covered by Medicaid, do not cancel anything medical because of the OMB mess.
I would not cancel any pending medical care if you’re covered by Medicaid

Now, he has issued an executive order that could be used to do just that.

Something something "he'll lower the price of eggs."

It's only gonna get worse from here.
The price of eggs in the US is spiking, mostly due to #H5N1 bird flu. Solving the problem requires urgent, important communications from the CDC & FDA* and rapid development of research by the NIH**

Lawful good is an attentive lover who nails basics really well, makes sure you come, and cuddles after. Chaotic good brings finger puppets and pina colada-scented lube and checks for consent at every step, but after you may (nonregretfully) wonder what possessed you to say "yes" in the first place.
