My ebike is speed and power regulated from the factory because lawmakers see it as a safety threat to people in cities if left unchecked.

I think a lot about this type of writing. I think it stems from a lack of control over tone. The best parts of your favorite books are dramatic, therefore good writing has to be as dramatic as possible. It's the prose equivalent of having candy for dinner.
