Traffic Calming:

I have been waiting years for NDOT to deploy a design like this.

No speed cushions*, just flex posts on all 3 lines.

It creates a visual (& physical) pinch point which slows down drivers.

It was working when I took these photos.

*Speed cushions are also deployed nearby.

Two personal anecdotal examples of behavior change due to physical street design changes.

1) Speed cushions on a neighborhood street in Inglewood. I used to drive home on this neighborhood street & now take Gallatin when I visit my local bagel joint

When you hear someone say we can’t do active or public transportation in the US, just know we are the global outlier - an aberrant society missing something that the rest of the world has already discovered or never forgot
This is interesting — a recent study of mode share (the % share of transportation trips by car, transit, walking, biking etc) relative to city size and income levels in almost 800 cities in 61 countries. Interesting results. HT @davidzipper.bsky.social

Cincinnati 🚌
A man was taken into custody after police say he jumped onto an "accordion-style" bus while the driver was on break, then proceeded to pick up passengers, make stops, and even denied a man entry because he had an expired bus pass.

The bad side of the river finally got a good breakfast burrito option!

We've been enjoying these huge burritos for over a year now & decided to share with our less fortunate neighbors over in Wedgewood-Houston

Resting Burrito Face, formerly JMAS burrito.

The most heartwarming part of all this drama is that there aren’t enough NIMBYs in his district for a recall effort - they couldn’t even get the signatures for it so the real estate agent from Franklin who led the group had to scrape up anti-housing advocates from other districts to make a fuss.
Councilmember does the right thing, increasing opportunities for housing.

Entitled homeowners don't get their way & proceed to throw a months-long tantrum.
A recall effort, an ethics threat and a packed council meeting reflect a divide in local politics.
