"Kinda Okay"
Pinned
Yes, we all got on each other's nerves. Some of us listened. Some of us dug our heels in. Some of us came in with an open mind. Some of us lamented being urban planners when we didn't go to school for that. Some of us had zesty commentary. Some of us kept our mouths shut.
Did my second shift at the Fairgrounds for the Red Cross. One of the things that will be helpful for future disasters that require shelter services - have a Metro employee schedule specific "office hours" there every day it's open.

I think what a lot of CMs and former CMs recognize is that their communication standards have always erred on the side of "be as opaque as possible" and nothing has changed over the last few natural disasters we have experienced.
The mayor’s statement about his meeting with NES. “What I learned today is that NES is unequipped to communicate about a crisis.”

The Winter Weather Relief Fund allowed uses needs to be immediately expanded to pay for rent and housing relief. We need to get creative locally on how to address the coming evictions caused by this weather event. There will be many more posts like this.

I was wondering what the 2 week temperatures were after the 1994 Nashville ice storm and wow!

I had my first Red Cross volunteer shift at the Fairgrounds today.

Metro employees have pivoted from their normal roles to being part of this response, and it was good to see their leadership in action while serving as a volunteer on the other side. #metrocouncilnash

I appreciate all of the work being done to restore power.

One of the things we need to flag for the future is how we did restoration work for multifamily properties that have a higher number of low income residents.

As of today, I am officially allowed to serve as a volunteer shelter worker for the Red Cross.

I have signed up for a couple of shelter shifts this weekend at the Fairgrounds.

I appreciate that today's media availability calls out the need for specific information for the community from NES.

I know of a few CMs asking NES right now for a spreadsheet of all the outages relevant to our areas. They replied that they are working on a solution to this request.

As the numbers are whittled down, some of the individual situations will be complicated. That's what happened after the tornado.

Major winter storm late Saturday into Sunday: Eastern NC and SE Virginia could see 8-12+ inches with 35-50 mph gusts creating near-blizzard conditions. Light fluffy snow will drift badly. If you're in these areas, prepare now.

I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

Stay warm. Stay safe.

If things get dangerously cold with no power, you can consider going to one of our warming locations.
NFD and MNPD are opening all Nashville Fire Stations and Metro Nashville Police Precinct Community Rooms, except for the Central Precinct and the East Precinct, as warming locations for residents affected by the current cold weather.

These locations will be open 24/7 until further notice.

We are concerned with the temp drop that's going to start late this morning. Things may improve for a bit then get worse as winds increase and temps drop. Those with and without power should be thinking about their stay warm plan. Overnight low is 8°.
