This is why in Scotland the government supports care experienced young people until 26 - the evidence backs it up
Want to help some of the most vulnerable young people in society get on in life?

Then extend the age at which young adults leave foster care, says this fascinating new US study by @khmusen.bsky.social

The effects - particularly on employment rates - are significant.

Am wondering if all of those suddenly deciding they’re against communities living “parallel lives” might reconsider their support of religious schools? Or indeed private ones?

There is a key moral distinction between immigration policy on new arrivals, no matter how draconian, and on people who have already been granted status, on set conditions. It is about being a country that keeps its word. If we're not that, we might as well fucking give up now.

A reminder to sign this and help stop the stupid and expensive ID card mistake.
One of the unexpected things I've learned from my advocacy for trans people is how malignant parts of the State can be, how it can misuse data for positively evil purposes. It's taught me people can't be safe with a digital ID card and so I've signed this. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/73...
Petition: Do not introduce Digital ID cards
We demand that the UK Government immediately commits to not introducing a digital ID cards. There are reports that this is being looked at.

We don't have the money to end child poverty, but a digital ID card to try and appease the far right, up pops the magic money tree.

I think there are reasonable arguments for the cards for most people to make it easier to get services etc. (And there are counter-arguments, of course.) But the idea that it controls/regularises immigration and the black economy is bollocks.

3. this is not the moment for an incredibly expensive increase in state surveillance infrastructure to be run for profit by private tech firms just before Labour ushers in an (even more) authoritarian right wing government.

Moving Space Command away from NORAD is stupid.

Colorado already has the existing ecosystem to support both the command and the operations.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Glasgow airport is underrated, cheap parking is available very close, it’s small so you get through quickly and the dining options are improving all the time. Rotterdam in the old days was glorious, my dad used to drive up to the plane and drop me off at the stairs
Actually, you know what? Let’s stop complaining for a second. QT this with a GOOD airport. Defend that title as much or as little as you like. But let’s hear about airports that don’t suck.

The threat to our society is not from asylum seekers in small boats. It’s from politicians and media cynically whipping up fear and prejudice, labelling them all as criminals, inciting hatred against people for where and what they’ve fled from.
It must stop. For all our sakes. It’s deeply sinister.
