A pro-affordability, anti-Trump-corruption message unites the party. Every candidate can run on that, and every candidate can have their own take to fit that to their constituents. There's really no need to find fights to pick when the party agrees on more than it disagrees
Came here to say this, but Jamelle Bouie has this covered. 👇
When the Democratic tent includes candidates like Spanberger and Mamdani, there is no crisis, or fight, for the party. IT’S A COALITION, NOT A POINT ESTIMATE.
i want to repeat this: mamdani and spanberger have run similar campaigns tailored to their respective electorates and it is maddening to watch political journalists attempt to create some broad contrast where none exist

ah, perhaps instead of pumping millions into endless factional infighting Dem donors could invest in making local Dem organizations genuine civic spaces that can reach people during and between elections

*whispers* you can continue to read me, the pundit who insisted the other pundits were wrong about these conclusions
basically every 2024 truism is dead. Trump did not build a lasting multiracial coalition or turn young men into committed Republicans. You don’t need to cave on trans rights to win. The pundits have nothing left to tell you.

sometimes I just can’t comprehend the number of people (particularly in the Democratic Party) who have failed us. How has it been YEARS of watching the hatred and lying and corruption and somehow the conclusion people come to is “well we can’t do anything other that what we’ve tried”

Elections have consequences.
I had polio when i was 9. I was taken from my parents & placed in a Hospital for contageous diseases- the polio ward. I would see them once a week - thru the glass window at the end of my ward. I could not walk. It was terrifying. Kids died. Iron lungs were awful. Dont let RFK Jr ban the vaccine

Ok this is frustrating to me. Why do we keep blaming the voters here. We should be able to trust the news and the govt. how about we start working on making laws that regulate media and govt so we know they can’t fucking lie and can be trusted sources?
No one actually has an answer yet for how we solve this fundamental problem of 🇺🇸 politics in 2024, i.e., that large swathes of the electorate simply believes (or is willing to vote as if it believes) objectively, empirically false things, over & over & over again.
We can psychoanalyze The Democrats & claim we know What They Must Do (spoiler, they're already doing it: bsky.app/profile/mcop...), but the underlying problem, for which has a good answer is that a large share of 🇺🇸 voters simply believes things that are detached from empirical reality:

my favorite show of all time. I’ve rewatched it twice since the start of COVID and….yeah
My Patreon podcast with Neil is watching The Leftovers for the first time, and I'm only halfway through the first season but I can't imagine 2104 Guilty Remnant hit like 2024 Guilty Remnant is hitting.

I think more Americans should watch these kinds of clips and realize this is all the GOP wants to do. Instead of actually help people, they invent problems and scream at public servants and citizens about and pretend that’s a normal way to govern a country
Holy shit -- acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe and Rep. Pat Fallon just had a huge, angry blow up during a hearing, screaming and yelling at each other

In addition to being an active alcoholic and a serial abuser of women, Pete Hegseth belongs to the Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches, or CREC, which is explicitly anti-suffrage and pro-marital-rape.
In 2018, Hegseth's mother called him out as an "abuser" and asked him to "get some help."

Instead, he joined a church with a long history of shielding abusers, blaming victims, and saying men "dream of being rapists" because of feminism.

Pete Hegseth's mother begged him to "get some help" — instead, he joined a grossly misogynist church
The denomination's leader argues men "dream of being rapists" because women aren't submissive enough

Chase Strangio spoke with @zachstafford.bsky.social before making history at the Supreme Court today.

It’s important for us to listen to what trans people have to say about what’s going on. And to follow their guidance.

I’d argue this includes arguments that claim Democrats did poorly in election because “we focused too much on identity politics.” Republicans aren’t the only ones who dog whistle.

Further, Dems generally did NOTHING to defend trans people from the onslaught of rhetoric and ads from Republicans.
Chase Strangio said we need to intervene in any and all narratives that work to blame or isolate transgender people. 👀 Step up, push back, be loud. Trans people need to know they aren’t alone and that their allies are legion.
