I’m re-reading my book THE KNEELING MAN—this time with the realization that it’s as much about gun violence as anything else.

From beginning to end (including, of course, Dr. King’s assassination), it’s a story about the degree to which the social order is maintained at the barrel of a gun
The time has finally come. My magnum opus, The Clownishness of Evil, has entered the world

I don’t think publishing a lot of stories really quickly is anything to brag about, even if it’s lucrative.

If someone isn’t writing stories themselves, I don’t think they’re a writer. They’re doing something else

Of course, the most powerful have been into human trafficking and all the horrors that entails since this country’s foundation (and long before)

These folks have blurred truth and unreality so much and behaved so abominably that EVERYTHING is now on the table as plausible

I was raised by Black journalists. And I can tell you this: they’ve always been the beating heart of what journalism is supposed to be.

And they’ve always been the first to face the backlash against that.

With writing, as with most endeavors, the doing is a big part of the thinking

Free Liam Ramos and his father. Releasing this five-year-old and dad from custody and letting them return home is morally and legally imperative.

It's unconscionable to negotiate DHS funding until this happens, Noem and Miller resign and more.

Yeah so rather than thinking about what’s possible and working toward that, I’m focusing on what’s needed and working backward from that. (What’s possible in a given circumstance can’t really be known until after the fact.)

This is a propos everything

I hate that this is once again relevant. But I wrote this a while back about how I don’t watch law enforcement execution videos

If there isn’t a general understanding that unrelenting and unrepentant exploitation (particularly racial) is at the root of why this place is collapsing, it probably can’t be saved

I’ve said it before, but a lot of microaggressions are very macro

Many thanks to @lowcountrygullah.bsky.social for this crucial and timely conversation as we honor the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

As a writer, I recognize the importance of being a reader. And the most important thing you will ever read is the room

Yeah so I’m at urgent care right now with a kid who developed a fever of over 105—a temp I have never seen in my life. It’s Flu A. (And yes, he did get a flu shot this fall, as did our entire household.)

He’s getting great care, and all is well. But be careful out there. And wear your masks.

ALL. OF THIS!!!
👏👏👏

Speaking of art and its messaging, particularly in cultural and societal impact and nuances, if LEGO 's "Everyone Is Awesome" set baffled or disturbed you in any way, you are part of the problem.
Best of luck to you to understand this.
