Devastating piece on the human toll of Kavanaugh Stops.

Especially infuriating to know that rich white guys like Brett K can simply close their eyes to the human suffering their racist jurisprudence has unleashed.
For two months, the U.S. government has been racial profiling as masked federal agents hunted for immigrants throughout Chicago. They’ve repeatedly snatched up U.S. citizens while traumatizing communities. “I felt like a piece of trash.” Here is our story www.chicagotribune.com/2025/11/15/l...
Latino US citizens racially profiled by federal immigration agents in Chicago: ‘I felt like a piece of trash’
The Tribune spoke to U.S. citizens and green card holders who have either been questioned or detained during Trump’s Operation Midway Blitz.

NEW: @propublica.org investigated the Chicago apartment raid where kids were zip-tied and citizens detained for hours. They find:

- NONE of the arrested were criminally charged
- NO evidence the building was "filled with TdA terrorists."
- ZERO legitimate reason for DHS to rappel from a Blackhawk.

It is journalistic malpractice to be within a city block of Vance and not read him this tweet through a bullhorn
Well, he's certainly stayed consistent on that point!

I’ve got some advil/tylenol combo pills if for some reason we have to have black market for routine otc pain meds
JD Vance calls ibuprofen "useless medication" and implies it's not "necessary, safe and effective."

People really will put anything in an email. My rule has always been if you aren’t ok with it being read in court (or foia’d in some cases) don’t put it in writing.

I can't see the aurora from my yard (at least not so far) but there's a really tall streetlight in front of my house and then two more lower ones across the street, plus trees and houses all obstructing the view.

For books I read as a kid: Reading the Hobbit in 8th grade made me realize how much I loved fantasy and expanded my small town mind about what a book could be. I read it twice before we finished it as a class.

Also the witch of blackbird pond in 6th grade stuck with me
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

It's one thing I truly loathe about these assholes (who dominate our politics & culture now). They can't tolerate something good & pure *existing*. Even if it's no bother to them, no bother to anyone, they can't tolerate it. Nothing can live outside their control, their narrow boxes, their fear.

In a world where the incumbent president bowed to pressure and stepped aside, it doesn’t seem like such a monumental ask to switch minority leaders.

“if we talk a lot about ICE and then win, we will be expected to do something about ICE. can’t have that!” this is setting up 2 years of dicking around with bipartisan healthcare legislation that goes nowhere. that’s the plan afaict

Whenever some sanctimonious Dem announces that America needs a functioning Republican Party, I always think “I’d settle for a functioning Democratic Party.”

Institutional Democrats have definitely made a strategic decision that those constituents most engaged in politics don't count. Unless it comes to fundraising.

The coordinated nature of this—none are facing voters in 2026—means that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it.

Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.
so currently defectors are:

Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)
King (2030)

Will Mike Johnson actually reconvene the house to take this deal up if it makes to final passage? Does he swear in the new AZ rep and let the Epstein vote happen?

It doesn't actually matter if Chuck Schumer votes for this or not.

If he can't keep his caucus unified to protect healthcare for over 10 million Americans, he should resign as leader.

look I know being an engaged citizen IS the work of democracy but it is also the work of elected officials not to create situations where everyone has to be mobilized all the time to prevent them from allowing some kind of Dickensian horror on a Sunday night while you're in between loads of laundry

Maybe important to note it was the disruption in air travel that Democrats couldn't stand and not, you know, 40+ million people not knowing where their next meal was coming from.

What was the point of any of this? Why is a retiring senator from IL of all places pushing for this govt to be funded? If we are pretty much back to status quo then it was a Dem shutdown. To kill the party’s momentum in this moment is unconscionable. Schumer and any yes votes all have to go

Shutting down the government is a big deal. People have been hurt in big ways as a result of the decision. To have that suffering be for nothing—to re-open the government without actually having protected people’s health insurance and economic well-being—is unconscionable.

We polled Indivisible members over the weekend on whether Dems should take a deal or keep fighting for the ACA subsidies. Results: 98.67% said keep fighting.

Dems who vote to surrender now are fracturing their own party in a way that will reverberate loudly in the primaries.
So Democrats get:

1. A CR that will prevent the GOP from facing the wrath of Americans for a shutdown over the holidays

2. A coupon for one (1) meaningless ACA vote that will fail

3. An end to the illegal RIF/SNAP moves that are already before the courts

Those all seem like wins for the GOP.

Following up on this. This remains a ‘cave is minutes or hours away’ situation. If you want to impact how this plays out you need to contact senators literally now. I want to add additional points of context. What I’m relaying is what I’ve picked up from highly reliable sources.
Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.
