Exactly, bombing the boat in the first place was a war crime, and there have been many others. The kill shot on the survivors was a continuation of that ongoing crime spree, not the beginning of one.
A note of caution about the new GOP vow of oversight on the murder of the two men clinging to the boat. It's good to see, but it could become a backdoor way for Rs to defuse pressure for broader scrutiny.

The entire operation is illegal. It all needs oversight. 1/

Hmmm. @benrothenberg.bsky.social is right, why sign up for 24/7/365 drug testing if you weren't planning on coming back? I wonder if this is just Serena wanting to break the news on her own time, in her own way, and she's not happy this news broke the way it did.
Updated this post with Serena's Twitter denial of the news...there's not really any reason why a person would sign up for the hassle of doping tests without having had an intention to compete again.

The legal, media, and academic institutions capitulating to an authoritarian ordering payments for favorable treatment are damning themselves to irrelevance. They are destroying their institutions. They will be — and should be — shunned for failing in their most basic purposes for existing.

Every single congressional Democrat needs to be out there, right now, insisting that Pete Hegseth resign right now and announcing that he will be held accountable for committing war crimes.

If you do not demand accountability here and now, they will only become more emboldened.
Exclusive: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gave an order to “kill everybody” in the first strike on suspected drug boats in the Caribbean. After two men survived, the mission commander ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s instructions, according to two sources.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth issued a verbal order to kill all crew members in the Sept. 2 strike on a suspected drug boat. Navy SEALs fired a second missile.

Continually amazed that someone who's been in public life as long as Trump has lacks the capacity to say anything appropriate when someone has died.
Q: Do you plan to attend Sarah's funeral?

TRUMP: I haven't thought about it yet, but it's certainly something I can conceive of. I love West Virginia. You know, I won West Virginia by one of the biggest margins of any president anywhere.

It’s understandable when corrupt authoritarians who market themselves as “fighters against corruption” try to silence their critics. It’s less understandable when journalistic outlets like the BBC cave to such authoritarian tactics.
In case you missed this, the BBC edited a historian's speech about Trump to remove the claim that he's "the most openly corrupt president in US history." This came after Trump had threatened a $1 billion lawsuit.

Elite capitulation continues.

Read all about it here:

Trump Angrily Threatened to Sue BBC. Then Things Took a Darker Turn.
First, British Broadcasting Corporation execs resigned after Trump complained about a segment. Now the BBC edited out a line from a historian that was critical of Trump. Where does this end?

This is spot-on.

The UVA "deal" might be the worst/most dangerous (so far). With the help of UVA's leadership, Trump coerced a leading U.S. university to foreswear all efforts (including 100% lawful measures) to achieve diversity.

A betrayal of our values.

As always, I'm astonished far less by Trump himself than I am by the tens of millions of Americans, powerful and not, who are essentially pretending this is all normal. It's like the court martial judges saying "well, maybe they DID steal his strawberries" and making Queeg Secretary of The Navy.
Trump: "I gave them as you know unlimited water, Biden came back with a rigged election, and he immediately restricted the water again. But I came back in and immediately unrestricted it again. So now you have unlimited water to clean your damn dishes."
