This is truly the late 90s Mike & The Mad Dog vibe. Perfect delivery.
Chris Russo goes full Mad Dog on the Mets' celebration and Gary Cohen's call of Pete Alonso's franchise-record home run.

Jim Crane: frugal in the winter, the Steve Cohen of the deadline.
The two notable parts of the Astros deadline so far:

1) They're clearly going to pay the luxury tax this year. Crane is going for it financially.

2) The 3 pieces they've acquired are all under team control for multiple years. It's not just rentals.

“Ashton Izzi” is one of those pitcher names where the guy should definitely be left-handed, but he’s not.

I just found out that JoMarie Payton left Family Matters during the final season after a fight on set with Jaleel White. Gonna go down this rabbit hole for 20 minutes now.

Everything that’s happened over the past six months has been a response to an imaginary crisis. There is no immigrant invasion. No trade crisis. No scientific or governance crisis. Just people completely high off their own supply trying to fundamentally reorder society. None of this had to happen.

Alex Cora gets treated as this unique managerial savant, but his team is bad in every way a poorly managed team would be bad:
Based on run differential, Red Sox should be 34-32.

But they lead the majors in errors (58) and are second in unearned runs (36). If there was a stat for mental mistakes on defense, they'd lead in that, too.

Organizationally, they need to fix that. Or acquire more players who know the game.

Good Astros/Rays game. My Jeremy Peña over 1.5 HR/Zack Littell over 8.2 IP parlay came in. $20 to win $6.3M.

Good argument that Skubal’s start against the Guardians today was the single best regular season start in recent history.
94 pitches. 13 strikeouts. Shutout.

Tarik Skubal with the most strikeouts in a Maddux (SHO on fewer than 100 pitches) since pitch counts have been tracked (1988)

Prior most: 12, Carlos Carrasco & Cliff Lee

Prior most in Maddux of no more than 94 pitches: 10

You turn on the Rockies broadcast, immediately:

“Senzatela is giving up 15 hits per 9, so you have to think they’re working with him to sequence his pitches differently”, and then a triple and a double to Volpe and the backup catcher.

Bleak, bleak stuff.

It’s a shame Trump is shutting FEMA down because the Baltimore Orioles are surely eligible to be declared a federal disaster.

The Red Sox just batted around twice in the same inning.

We saw this with McCullers a couple weeks ago, and it seems pretty obvious that this is the impact of sports betting on our society. Men lose half their paycheck chasing a thrill and then lash out in grotesque ways.

It's true, constantly focusing on petty culture-war bullshit to castigate the party for surrendering to "wokeness" and tanking Senate votes over personal gripes and pet causes was—wait, WHICH faction?
Some of us have been warning you since 2017 that constantly attacking the Democratic Party over the pettiest bullshit while repeatedly threatening to withhold your votes would eventually cause officeholders to look at the left and ask, "Why bother?"

A heated Joe Espada began his postgame news conference by revealing that threats against Lance McCullers Jr’s family and life were made after today’s start. The Astros say they’ve notified HPD and MLB security about the threats.

I don’t have a net loss with hulu. it costs something and I pay it.
NEW: The U.S. Postal Service posted a net loss of $3.3 billion in this fiscal year’s second quarter mainly due to “significant challenges out of our control,” including workers’ compensation costs, Luke Grossmann, USPS chief financial officer, said at the open session of the governing board meeting

Genuinely has anyone *ever* been owned so badly as a man who converts to a new religion as an adult and sorta makes it his whole thing only to see the literal head of that religion rebuke his entire deal and then they choose the NEXT head of the religion specifically because he doesn't like you
