Celebrating meme culture with your friends IRL with a slight trade-off of minor risk of bodily injury. I get it.
I love that the Boston cop slide never got fixed and now people just willingly go down it in tribute. It’s basically a national landmark at this point

He's mentioning 2013-14.

If i remember correctly, that was the winter people were skating in the middle of Toronto Harbour.

I think Ryan Hall is a bit underappreciated. Yeah, he lures you in with some of his graphics nowadays, but he usually smacks you on the head with some realism about uncertainty. Plus this video leans on solid historical analysis. That's good content. I just wish we had a Canadian equivalent.

My dad was in a Toronto hospital 30 kilometres away, with a window pointing towards the accident site. The fireball lit his room up in red-orange light. My grandpop picked him up earlier than scheduled the next morning, likely out of caution and for contingency planning.
46 years ago I woke up to massive explosions and a tower of fire 2 miles away. My Dad thought the Russians had attacked.

A train derailment and exploded tanker cars created a cloud of chlorine gas over the city, so we evacuated with 250,000 other Mississaugans.

It’s a quiet Saturday night in 1979. Residents in Mississauga, Ontario are asleep. The next day is expected to be quiet for the thousands that live there. Many would be looking forward to a nice br…

A #metroscapes site update: West GTA Watersheds has been updated to include some watercourses I missed, and refine watershed boundaries. Changes have been published over to the data portal as well.

Holy moly. No wonder those transmitters (like the facility at 2424-2480 Lakeshore Rd W, Mississauga) is fenced with barbed wire. I still believe there's room for improvement, but I get it.

Interesting article from @ericgrenier.bsky.social suggesting that floor crossers in the last 25 years have fared relatively well in subsequent elections. #cdnpoli

Hard to believe I finished my migration 2 years ago now. Seems so short and so long ago at the same time.
Walking away from a social network is hard. But I finally shut down my X account. It was easier for me because I started putting the work in two years ago, migrating 5,647 pictures onto 126 pages on my own domain that I can control. If I can do it, you can too. metroscapes.ca/2022/05/01/m...

A Reddit post screen capped a version of the Metrolinx Wayfinding Design Standards that had the train lines lettered A-G. Kind of circular given that's how they used to do it. www.reddit.com/r/gotransit/...

As plans for new regional rail stations advance, Toronto is reckoning once again with SmartTrack, a campaign promise that never really went away.

But as details slowly emerge, Torontonians deserve transparency of how these new stations will actually work.

Will you check out this GO/UP Station when it opens or wait till the full Crosstown opens to visit the station?

This is a fun chart!

The green is the main bsky load balancer traffic throughput from Saturday night, and the purple is how much traffic there was 7 days before (the previous Saturday)

The spike is due to the world series - pretty incredible! ⚾

I watched this too. What a gong show. That officer is going to have to answer for a) failing to stop the vehicle, b) the injuries to the person being detained, and c) almost running his fellow officers over too.
We are aware of an arrest gone horrifically wrong. After a person was tased by police, a TPS officer exited his vehicle without parking it, it hit the person & another officer. Cop entered the SUV & instead of stopping it hit the gas, making the situation worse. We will be watching this closely.

I'm going to have to do some fundraising soon. This hobby creates a lot of data, and upgrading my storage is probably going to cost $1,000. That's on top of $700 of capital costs I put towards equipment in the last 2 years, $100 each year to run my website, and lots of gas and transit fare.
