First finished book of the year! (I will not be taking questions about that) And since I gave up on Goodreads, the most I’ll do is a reading thread now 😂
Oh no, they’re recognizing me at Taco Bell again, I think I have to reassess my dinner choices 😔

And now they are reporting that Summers "will immediately leave his role as instructor."
I think we can credit these student reporters with a great deal of the pressure that made him resign.

Wondering if the #kidlit community can point me towards more recent bilingual English-Spanish picture books? Our school library has some older ones, but I’d like to refresh it for the kids who’d benefit.

Independent providers like @queerdoc.bsky.social are stepping in as hospitals reduce or eliminate gender-affirming care, but this makes them easier to single out for harassment. It's a dynamic we've long seen in abortion care, as @garnethenderson.com notes

If you're outside Alberta, talking about this issue will help. This article explains what's happening and also gives further context with how the UCP also used the notwithstanding clause to legislate striking teachers back to work, taking rights away from them

Alberta invokes notwithstanding clause to stop court challenges of transgender laws | Globalnews.ca
The clause relates to laws that put restrictions on student pronoun changes at school, on girls' sports, and on medical therapies for young people looking to transition.

I really hate it when scientists keep saying that “we need to rebuild trust in science,” because it implies that scientists are to blame for the mistrust rather than the millions of dollars of dark money that have funded political attacks on science in order to advance a far right agenda.

A House panel is holding a hearing on a proposed ban on Congressional stock trading.

This ban is long overdue. Why should members of Congress be able to use privileged information to make money on the stock market, while they’re supposed to be working for you?

I promise you that about one month after the AI bubble collapses into a gravitational singularity, companies like Apple will now be up-selling their new, AI-free software as some great solution to a problem they DEFINITELY didn't cause.
Not satisfied with just destroying their own brand goodwill, OS companies are now using AI to try to destroy the good names of the apps users install. (Scrivener taking out adds to explain how it has no AI but Apple adds some anyway.)

Why?

Because one of the arguments nuclear companies use today to explain why nuclear is so expensive is to blame regulations.

Do you know what other industry hates regulations? Tech.

Do you know who else hates regulations? The Trump administration.
Trump seeks to boost nuclear industry and overhaul safety regulator
A series of executive orders aims to promote new kinds of nuclear reactors while restructuring the body in charge of nuclear safety.

Not directly related to Mullins's cruel, ignorant opinion, but health care companies should be forbidden from operating as for-profit entities, much less trading on the stock market. Results should be measured in terms of health outcomes, not dividends to stock holders.
Markwayne Mullin: "Reward people for being healthy. Think about this. Healthcare is the only industry that you're not rewarded for taking care of your responsibility. If you think about homeowners insurance, if you're within 500 feet of a fire hydrant, your insurance goes down."

If passed states can no longer enact laws for transparency, child safety, privacy, environmental protection etc.

We got 3 days to stop this. Call now!
