Which "defense tech" company is this about? Go on guess.
You can also practically hear the coke sniffles in these sentences

I don't think there is enough active management of this.
I dunno what else would happen if you did this but I do think it would effectively ensure that the 2026 House Dem caucus is less “reconstruction 2.0” and more “Blood for the Blood God”.

If I ever make the bad decision to get another grad degree, I'll probably do a dissertation on this topic.
It's my tepid explanation for why smaller community level public safety organizations in the US have experienced so much decay, and why agencies supported by larger county or cities haven't.

There are social and cultural things at play here too, a lot of communities see their public safety departments of representative of civic institutions from a bygone era of higher social trust. Unfortunately, this also means these communities are less likely to reform them with the times.

I remember the first few security cooperation and humanitarian response courses we did after the destruction of USAID, where military students would ask if this would be an "opportunity" for DoD to expand onto USAID's portfolio. Some students were absolutely convinced that was the plan. It wasn't.
USAID is still gone, no other country has shown either the will or the ability to fill in the services whose disappearance is going to kill millions of people, and no one in the media or political class cares that we are going to kill more people than the Holocaust before this is over 👍

Now this is not the worst possible noun that could have been in the sentience (it was port visit rights) but I can not understate how *bad* this is.

Also this was supposed to be the agreed to in conference language that was just gonna clear the whole Senate, then the whole House, and then go for signature, as a part of the CR deal
They're literally asking the House to pass a bill that *only* protects Senators in this way lol

The Senate has found a thing they don't like QI for: anyone investigating them for doing crimes (it explicitly waives any claim of QI lol)
Also this passed through regular order via approps, not any CR stuff, so Murray along with Heinrich and Ossoff should be the ones getting blasted for this

I am kind of sitting here mouth agape as I realize that the thing that really got eight Democrats to cave was a provision which provides backdoor criminal and civil immunity to them personally by making it functionally impossible to ever investigate the Senate

It’s the coast guard after the Fitzgerald we revamped the inspection processes for the Great Lakes freighters and we took a bunch of them out of service! this combined with the ss marine electric sinking massively changed how the Inspections were done for all American flagged vessels.
In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.
The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.
The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.
Why?
It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.

Learning new words is awesome and I wish everyone tried to do it!
For people who think they sit at the center of the spinning universe, solipsism is a valid world view.
I’ve been laughed at, chided, derided, counseled, and humiliated by bosses, teachers, peers, and strangers for having a vocabulary so many times I’ve lost count.

The Iliad and the Oddessy are phenomenal as spoken word poetry in both (good) translation and in the original Greek.
Outside of the entire book in the Iliad, that is just ship names skip that one. No one gives a shit.

Dog, it would take every single available mining engineer in this country to open a mine in 2 years even if we had already completed exploration (that phase is very hard to condense)
I mean I am built different (and promised some potential clients we could do it).
