Irony: Woody Johnson doesn't want to be publicly criticized by players. Last month, he publicly criticized his quarterback.
The rich and powerful don't like to be criticized. And so the NFL is trying to strong-arm the NFLPA into ending its annual team-by-team report cards.

I understand how paragraphs like this emerge from the editing process, but of course “little attention has been given” to a story no one knew about a minor victim whose identity was protected by a bunch of laws.

As Schmidt says in his post, this is our first encounter with this information.

The SVU episode about Epstein and Ghislaine, made because the story was well-known enough that people would watch it and immediately know it was “ripped from the headlines”, aired on February 2, 2011
"Convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein" is a phrase that first appeared in newspapers in March 2011 and appeared regularly from that point onward. it is INCONCEIVABLE to me that this many people were still associating with him!!

It isn't improving over time.

Even among the GOP, just 45% (!) approve of the job the Trump admin is doing on the Epstein case."

I love that we're taking things political genius Chuck Schumer says as reality
Democratic leaders hope history rhymes. Schumer thinks the Senate can flip, with an expanded map including Trump states like North Carolina, Ohio, Iowa, Texas, Florida, Alaska plus Susan Collins' Maine, etc. (Betting markets give them about 1 chance in 4 to net 4 seats).

Meanwhile, here's an example of the horrendous things found in Hillary Clinton's emails—the only story worth covering for any serious news outlet in 2016, apparently.

This email is also regarding a child who suffered abuse from a grown man.

The horrifying emails coming from the Estate (and not the DOJ) made me think about something else. Merrick Garland had access to all the Epstein Files and I'm sure he knows what's in them and he could've gone after Trump for that in addition to J6 but he didn't. Garland protected pedos.

NEW: At Pope Leo’s Urging, Bishops Issue Historic Rebuke of Trump’s Raids
Nearly all U.S. Catholic bishops united in Baltimore to denounce the Trump administration’s “inhumane” deportation campaign — a near-unanimous, unprecedented moral stand against a sitting president.

One of the defining feelings in American life, for decades now, is elites doing plainly criminal shit and nothing at all happening as a result. It is deranging in a way that virtually nothing else is. Media fixates on perceived street lawlessness but shit like this matters much more in my opinion.

Lower Treasury rates are generally better for the economy, but (1) this is a confession they have no "affordability" plan at all, and (2) they haven't made much progress on rates anyway, 10-year still >4%.

Republicans' real "affordability" plan is to blow up the data agencies then lie about it.

Josh’s post is worth reading in its entirety. The points:

1) kill the filibuster
2) court reform
3) DC/PR statehood
4) clean up laws on presidential power
5) outlaw extreme gerrymandering

These strike me as a really good starting point of foundational necessities.
