#ESO pic of the NGC 2264 region that includes the #Christmas Tree Cluster. You've got these young stars shining like bright blue ornaments on a cosmic tree made of reddish and greenish gas clouds. Down there's the dark Cone #Nebula sticking out like a shadowy cone. They built this color image using four filters – B, V, R, and H-alpha – with the Wide Field Imager at ESO's La Silla Observatory up in the Chilean Andes.

This is exactly right. The single biggest reason we aren’t teaching more “traditional” topics is that, following two decades of retirements, most of us lost 50-75% of those faculty positions.

Not in the original. But eels DO appear in the Second Shepherd's Play...a 15th C. mystery play from N. England featuring the shepherds of nativity fame. 1/5

🧱 You can find these amazing ruins in Turkmenistan! This is the site of the ancient city of Merv, an urban center from the 3rd millennium BCE to 1788 CE, nearly 5,000 years! It’s been referenced as an important site in Zoroastrian texts, and was a popular rest stop along the Silk Road.
