Now that the billionaires are running NASA too we might as well rebrand the USA to Weyland-Yutani and be done pretending we don't live in that timeline.

I think it’s important to remember that as into social media as we are, huge numbers of Brits & Americans don’t spend time online & get their info from newspapers, tv & what colleague say at the pub/work.

As William Gibson wisely said, “The future is already here—it's just not evenly distributed”

Chilling piece on employment effects of AI on early careers. Includes this line, which will probably become the norm for many firms: "Managers at Shopify must now justify hiring a human by first explaining why AI can’t do the job."

I’m supportive of workers right to strike, as a rule. BMA’s latest action included. The majority of working population is worse off by around 20% on our pay packets in comparison to 2008. #BMAStrike

I refer to anything prior to 2016 as the ‘before times’.

Before Trump I.
Before Brexit.
Before mum died.
Before David Bowie died.
Before COVID.

The Before Times.

I am over 50.

This is INCREDIBLE. The Bearded Vulture has multigenerational nests that last for hundreds of years, built in very secluded places — and they’re FULL OF ANTHROPOGENIC ARTIFACTS.
super cool study found human artifacts in Bearded vulture nests, incl. "weaponry like a crossbow bolt and wooden lance, decorated sheep leather, and parts of a slingshot....a shoe made from twigs and grass is ~675-years-old." link to paper: doi.org/10.1002/ecy..... www.popsci.com/environment/... 🧪🌍🦉

It’s important to distinguish an ID card and a digital ID (card). The former is fine and majority of us have some of form of it already, the latter would contain all
our data bringing with it untold potential for exploitation.
I think Digital ID cards could well become Starmer’s Poll Tax.

In parts of Michigan, you can pick up a fairly ordinary chunk of limestone & with some polishing, reveal a coral formation that was laid down when this area was a tropical sea in the Devonian, 350 MYA.

These are Petoskey stones, the state stone of Michigan.
