I don’t really get why the editor of the NYT obit of Tom Stoppard let the writer keep his snobby “if you like that sort of thing” tone in there when talking about Shakespeare In Love. It’s fine if the writer thinks that even if I disagree, but that tone doesn’t belong in an obituary, imo

JD Vance owns a company that buys American real estate and sells it to foreign investors. They specifically target Americans in crisis to buy their property for less than it is worth.
JD Vance: "A lot of young people are saying housing is way too expensive. Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants who were taking houses that ought by right go to American citizens."

I’m certainly not the first person to recommend Sophie Elmhirst’s “A Marriage at Sea” nor will I be the last.

But this book is so damn good - it exceeds all the hype and even better, it got me out of a reading slump and I read it in two days. Now on my list of “unputdownable” books.

Like, I get they don’t care if poor people die. But setting aside, you know, basic humanity, and looking at things strategically, how is SAYING that and fighting to let people die a good look for them politically?
