If you watched the Last Week Tonight ep this week about felony murder, here’s a life that was almost snuffed out by that awful legal wrinkle.

Vinyl records enthusiasts: what is your Holy Grail, white whale, “I don’t own this know but someday I must have it” LP?

For me, it’s an original pressing of Donny Hathaway’s live album. Digital is already sensational, but I bet it really comes alive on a turntable.

If the price on Mitch Keller isn't close to what one of Joe Ryan/Pablo Lopez/Freddy Peralta/Sandy Alcantara would cost, he might be a really good option. Didn't see that coming.
If a pitcher is coming to Fenway Park, which ones give up Air Pull to right-handed batters?

How I wish I was still her constituent.
Both Senate Democrats and Republicans have failed in their responsibility to address the health care crisis and rein in a dangerous president who consistently ignores Congress’s authority and the rule of law. This “deal” is offensive to the American people and I won’t support it.

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

Just called my senators (in California!) and strongly urged them to vote against the deal and get their colleagues to oppose it too, for all the good my pleading will do

I'm daring y'all to put a college logo on my face that I detest to help #ExtraLife break a world record on Saturday.

That's right, I'm poking the Michigan money cannon. I don't believe it's real.
Help Me Break a World Record on Saturday
Today, I'll head out to Salt Lake City to participate in the first ever Extra Life Unlocked event. I'll be honest, I don't completely know what I'm in for, but I know it'll be a good time. Make sure to follow my Twitch channel as I'll stream at random times should it make sense. At minimum, I'll live stream getting my Extra Life tattoo, which will likely be my first stop, somewhere between 10:30 - 11:00 AM CST. The official stream will also kick off at 11 AM CST, so make sure to tune into the official Extra Life Twitch channel to check it out. During the event on Saturday, we are going for a world record: the longest line of toy money. Of course, being the fundraisers we are, we are tying this to donations. **For every donation, of any amount, we will add a toy dollar to the line and we need over 1,000 donations to make this happen.** I am taking this a step further, and pulling a page out of the EDSBS playbook: I'm bringing in college football (it is a game day after all). When you make a donation to my Extra Life page on Saturday, make sure to comment the school that you represent (deadline likely at 4 PM CST--follow me on Bluesky, Instagram, Facebook, and even Threads for real time updates). For the school with the most donations (of any value), I will get your logo painted on my face. For the school with the highest donation total, I will get your logo painted on my face **and** get my hair sprayed in your school colors. **Plus, I will keep both of these intact for my flight home and for my Sunday Minecraft stream.** Yes, this means I could have a video out there forever with my face painted with a school logo that I hate and colors that would make me vomit and that's **after** I go through the airport looking like a fool. Brand me. I dare you. Show me your college football spite to change kids' health!

An observation: “pivot to video” as a model of content delivery caught fire ten years ago. This year has seen a rash of columns fretting about the United States becoming an illiterate society. Funny. I wonder whether there could be a connection between these two phenomena.

I haven’t been in the Dodger Stadium press box, so I don’t know how close it is from the booth to a toilet, but that’s incredible. Vin switched from water to sucking on Jolly Ranchers in his later years to keep from having to pee. I have broadcast bathroom break stories from my minor league days.

I think a lot about the story Carl Reiner told: he’d have been a sewing machine repairman if not for a free WPA drama class. That led to other theater work, to Sid Caesar, to Mel Brooks, and all the rest. All because of one free class paid for by a government that felt the arts were worth teaching.
you ever think about the works progress administration? I sure do. I wish that was a thing now. I would be so glad to contribute my labor to like. A random ass local bridge

Hearing @surber.bsky.social mention Kyle Parker while going off on Clemson on a recent Fullcast reminded me that he played pro baseball, too, and was in the first MiLB game I ever called back in 2011. Here’s my scorebook; Parker wasn’t even the only quarterback in the game (Russell Wilson!)

Look, I know a lot of Jews who, having seen anti-Zionism increase antisemitism’s acceptance in America, don’t want an anti-Zionist mayor. I can understand that. But if you can’t find a way to say “I support his affordability policies and will be watching him on the other stuff,” get out of politics
Q: It's election day in NYC. Did you vote for Mamdani or Cuomo?

Schumer: "Look, I voted, and I look forward to working with the next mayor to help NYC."
