The people who'll tell you today's murder victim in Minnesota shouldn't have turned up to a protest carrying a gun are the same people who said Kyle Rittenhouse was perfectly entitled to do the same thing.

Memory is a fragile thing in this moment, so it is important to keep in mind that Hakeem Jeffries refused to whip his caucus against ICE funding earlier this week.

A lot of the "training" police receive is about getting away with harming/killing. They use Graham v. Connor and the idea of "reasonableness". They're trained to claim to feel unsafe, threatened, and/or that they saw or believed there was a weapon. Yet Dems think "training" is the solution for ICE.

At the end of the day, the Black Lives Matter era was about whether people should be killed in the street, and lots of people decided yeah and put those little blue flags on their cars. It spread to everyone because it stopped for no one.

Once again: Focusing on their lack of training is a mistake. With "better training," their violence would simply cost more, and they would still kill whoever they wanted, but make it look more professional — to make people more comfortable, the way many of you are at ease with local police violence.

losing my mind at the "she should have followed directions" people

really? really? you're cool with "if you don't follow directions, they get to kill you"? that seems like a good state of affairs to you? that seems like how law enforcement ought to work: instant obeisance or death?

Trying to quit Spotify (because #fuckICE) and I've successfully transferred all my music to Qobuz, but I'm trying to find a similar way to tell a new app/platform (I'm not picky about which one) which podcasts I've already listened to on Spotify. Is this a thing?

Saw someone post about how it's really fucked up that we all have to speculate about whether or not the FBI manufactured evidence to back their version of events. The thing is, you should always suspect that about law enforcement—these guys are just more clown-ish and obvious about it.

This is an excellent article that breaks down what’s happening in Kenya right now, with really good historical and cultural context that you don’t usually get from American media

Tomorrow marks the first anniversary of anti-finance bill protests and the police killings of protesters in #Kenya. These are the names of those who were killed - all killed by the police. Yet senior government officials have spent the whole day warning protesters to “maintain peace”.

I'm imagining ICE doing to NYC what it's doing to LA — and the people of NYC responding the way people are in LA — and it all happening under Mayor Cuomo. He'll side with ICE, DHS and, of course, the NYPD. This man, who hates the city and doesn't live here, can not become mayor. Don't rank him.

I'm obviously not saying that we should blindly trust experts in every single scenario. But given that any member of the public can only know so much, "what is the academic consensus on this?" is a far better way to reach sensible conclusions than "what are uncredentialed 'mavericks' saying online?"

It seems to me that there’s a big difference from just flying someone to another country and dropping them off, and flying them to another country to imprison them for years or life

We don’t really have a word for the second thing but we need it

Protest changes the permission structure. It says fascists will not be allowed to proceed unencumbered. And if you didn't think there was anything to be done, a protest shows you many think otherwise.

A community of people denying a platform for ideas that they feel are harmful is not a violation of anyone’s right to free speech.
The government revoking your citizenship and locking you up over ideas you’ve expressed is a violation of your right to free speech.
Hope this helps.

@schumer.senate.gov Trump is already defying the courts, and the public is already rising up, and you have already proven you are not fit for this moment. Resign now before your ineptitude and cowardice let us slide even farther into a dictatorship
Schumer: "If he defies the Supreme Court, then we are in uncharted territory ... our entire democracy is at risk. I believe that if Donald Trump should defy the courts, the public will rise up. Democrats will fight it in every single way ... autocrats only succeed if the public lets them."

now would be a good time for liberals to make a massive investment in progressive media. decades of relying on the ny times/wapo/ap/cnn has been a failure and they're now more right-wing than ever. everything is turning into a miniature fox news and liberals dont want to put money into this.
