Mark Zuckerberg is gonna let your aunt Denise turn uncle Bob into the Finn.
This is happening at a far faster pace than we anticipated in the episode. Extremely grim, very enraging

Yeah, I can definitely understand how my bosses and managers think genAI is useful.
It’s so funny to think about the fact that there’s people out there deferring every life decision to this

Maybe the best night of my life, there was a BARCORE show at an abandoned Chinese restaurant at Myrtle Bway. The place was gutted, no bar, no drinks. Next door was doing $1 PBR night, so we went and bought a ton of beers, tipped really well, and they let us leave and gave them out at the show.
"zoomers are killing the bar industry" oh interesting was it zoomers who decided a drink should cost seventeen dollars

Here is a self-obsessed, meth-addicted, cyberspace celebrity who advocates for the benefits of self-harm, and appeals to the most sociopathic, hitlerite tendencies in young men, getting a glowing feature in America’s most prominent newspaper.

We are living in the Mirrorshades universe.
Braden Peters, known as Clavicular, has emerged as a beacon for a group of narcissistic, status-obsessed young men. He wants to take his fixation with “looksmaxxing” mainstream.
Looks Aren’t Everything? Clavicular Begs to Differ.

this rant video about the Capital One Bank guy critiques the surreal rise of self-referential marketing and mascots, and gave me an existential crisis. corporate mass media under late capitalism is eating out of its own asshole.

Capitalism forces us to consider: Without the profit motive, what incentive do humans really have to cure disease?
In terms of what cures are being lost:

- Epstein-Barr virus is perhaps the major trigger for multiple sclerosis
- herpes simplex virus causes cold sores, genital herpes, infections in babies, deadly meningitis
- shingles virus causes an intensely painful disease

many people are asking... under what pretext does Immigration and Customs Enforcement feel that they have any grounds to threaten legal residents that "agitate" them?
He literally says in this clip that ICE will keep in Minnesota “quick reaction forces” — a military term — to go after “agitators.” Remember that those on the ground in MPLS have spent more than a week trying to tell everyone that Trump’s prior “deescalation” was a ruse and ICE is still operational
Homan: "Operation Metro Surge is ending. In the next week, we're going to deploy the officers here on detail back to their home stations or to other areas of the country where they're needed."

Honestly, still have not seen a good theory for why this happened other than “they’re fucking idiots, man” but concerned for my family there.

Someone said the scolds need to log off When It Happens, so I’m just gonna get this out of the way now: I do not feel like Americans really have anything to celebrate if the only thing that stops the brutal ascent of fascism in this country is our decrepit leader dropping dead while still in office.
Trumpism is a personality cult. This is bad because the cultists have no loyalty to anything beyond Trump and no principles outside of pleasing Trump. But it also means Trumpism is unlikely to have much force without Trump himself.
House Oversight hearing on ICE opens with the rules:

"It is also a clear violation of the rules of the House to make statements that might personally be offensive to the President or the Vice President of the United States."

There are people in my home town & places I frequent, who pose a threat to my physical safety and the safety of others.
When bsky moderation censors accounts like @bywayofplymouth.bsky.social, not only does it make us less safe, but it also erases their entire backlog of research which we rely on.
Our friends over at @bywayofplymouth.bsky.social got a permanent account ban, presumably for doxing fascists.

They’ve appealed, but it looks like Bluesky is not really a safe place for antifascist researchers who expose fascists.

Ten years ago today, on Feb 6th, 2016 an itchy little slimeball named Roosh V planned on having a “mens rights” rally that, among other things advocated for “the legalization of rape on private property” – It was a pro-rape rally, and people responded as you might expect.

I’m trying to detox from politics for a few days and it’s been going ok, but I was at a greasy spoon diner in the middle of nowhere in some NYC outer borough and saw a “Trump blames intern for racist lion king video” headline on cable news and… man I’m so glad I have no idea what that means.

NYC mayor is going for the cheap pop with the urban explorer voting bloc
It’s your city, from the sidewalk to the skyline. The David Dinkins Municipal Building’s rooftop is open & free to everyone, starting this June.

It’s me. I’m “no one”
The idea that no one said anything about the Obama deportations requires you to ignore the fact that he was labeled the Deporter in Chief by immigrant rights groups. This is why Biden was particularly deliberate in building relationships with many of these same groups to mute their criticism

i dwell a lot on how i seem to have flunked out of a professional career in journalism & digital publishing, but then i look at the people who are succeeding in this industry, in this climate, and i am glad i don't have anything to do with it.
The next item in the auction was a week in a house in Sag Harbor. As the auctioneer was in the middle of talking about the item, Bari shouted “Name your price!” Didn’t wait for the bidding to begin. She won it for $25k.

we are entering the A Las Barricadas phase, ok
"What would it take to begin coming together across the entire Twin Cities, establishing filter blockades to secure community control over zones or neighborhoods?"

Idk man, I definitely remember needing to blow up my entire social circle more than once in my life because we found out someone in the scene was actually a disgusting but well connected pervert.
I feel like someone’s gotta say something, so I guess it’s going to be me. I’m 100% certain that I either know, have met, or have sought meetings with people who have done horrible things in their lives, too. How about y’all? Association is not causation, and it's not guilt — of anything. (1/8)
