i want to repeat this: mamdani and spanberger have run similar campaigns tailored to their respective electorates and it is maddening to watch political journalists attempt to create some broad contrast where none exist
the other thing about this is that there is no reason to pit these candidates against each other? each are good fits for their respective electorates and each shows the value of vigorous campaigns focused on the stated material problems of voters.

Trump: "I don't think we're necessarily going to ask for a declaration of war, I think we're just gonna kill people that are bringing drugs into our country. We're going to kill them. They're going to be, like dead."

Trump claims the power to murder supposed “narcoterrorists” by fiat, without trial or evidence. In what is surely an unrelated matter, he is also calling his political opponents “terrorists”. We are nine months in.
Kinda seems like whether or not the president has the power to assassinate people with no due process, no input from Congress, no review, no oversight, and with no obligation to provide anyone with any information or evidence other than “trust me” is an important test of our democracy.

George was just trying to get to work.

ICE pepper-sprayed him, dragged him from his car, locked him in a detention center, and placed him on suicide watch. He even missed his young daughter’s birthday in the process.

This man is a veteran and American citizen. Don't look away.
"They put me on suicide watch and they put me in the cell, I'm naked, in like a hospital dress and just a concrete bed with like a mattress, like a thin mattress and, they leave the light on 24/7."

The First Amendment explicitly guarantees:

-the right of the people peaceably to assemble
-to petition the Government for a redress of grievances
-the free exercise of religion
-freedom of speech

If this priest had also been press, ICE would have violated all five 1A freedoms at once.

Media: no one can predict the future 77 pinocchios
Last year, CNN ran a “fact check” of Kamala HQ that claimed we were lying for saying Trump’s plan is Project 2025.

Now Trump is outright admitting it’s his plan.

Legacy media failed the country.

A basic point, but the reason you go after flawed actors like Comey is to habituate people to the abuse of prosecutorial authority, so that when more serious figures are targeted the abuse of authority feels routine.

Sometimes I wonder if the Ds shouldn't become a more explicitly "federative" party, with more state-level "coalition partners" who don't even call themselves Democrats in certain parts of the country.
Abortion is a bad example here, but it is one hundred percent true that we need candidates who can compete in deep red contexts, and that means taking positions at odds with the national party.

If you want to know why that doesn't compromise national policy goals, think about why you hate Collins.
Ezra Klein 🤝 Neera Tanden

Despite the overwhelming popularity of abortion rights in all states, we should surrender instead

I would like to see the 'liberal center' as it were be a bit more aware that there is a distinction between 'doing debate' and defending the concept of debating.

Liberalism isn't a call to intellectual neutrality, but an active commitment to specific principles of liberty, pluralism and rights.

Again let's repeat: "it would take only 4 GOP Senators, or 6 to 7 Representatives, to save the country"

Fine, with filibuster/impeachment hurdles, say 30

Why is everyone in the media laser-focused on What Democrats Must Do? Stop giving those 10-30 Republicans free passes:

bsky.app/profile/mcop...
Some numbers:

-Most Americans are women.

-Via the Census, about 60 million Americans are in a household that includes a daughter.

-Every American, or human being, should be appalled and disgusted by this.

It would take only 4 GOP Senators, or 6 to 7 Representatives, to save the country.

Actually Congress has been ineffective by choice. It has immense power if it had the courage to use it.

This is "the one big trick" that the right has mastered. They present their movement as just "the authentic voice of the volk outraged by Democratic overreach," when really what they're doing is just old fashioned political mobilization. Organize a passle of pissed off people & call it a movement.

There are virtues to working with people you otherwise disagree with. It's much harder, for example, for people to "other" religious, sexual, ethnic, & racial minorities when they spend time working with them as allies. It's no accident that the authoritarian right now wages a war against empathy.
