The most under-covered story in politics right now is how tremendously energized the anti-Trump grassroots opposition is, despite all claims to the contrary
Breathtaking #NYTimes media malpractice. The nationwide #NoKings demonstrations attracted 7 million people to arguably the largest protests in U.S. history. But today's Times hides 2 small photos on the front page, and buries the story on page 23. @jfallows.bsky.social @froomkin.bsky.social

President Obama: There’s this young state rep, James Talarico… He’s terrific. Really talented young man.

Marc Maron: There is something grounded about him that you had too.

Obama: A guy like him, his starting point is ‘Let me say what I believe.’

Last year, CNN ran a “fact check” of Kamala HQ that claimed we were lying for saying Trump’s plan is Project 2025.

Now Trump is outright admitting it’s his plan.

Legacy media failed the country.

James Talarico: I honestly think that young people are going to be the ones to lead us out of this. There is something brewing out there. People are hungry for something bigger and deeper

How are Gavin Newsom, Zohran Mamdani, and Kamala Harris all connected? Guest authors @parkerbutler.bsky.social and Lauren Kapp take a look in today's edition of FWIW.
One thing Gavin Newsom, Zohran Mamdani, and Kamala Harris have in common
And what other Democrats can learn from their online vitality

The social media strategies behind Brat Summer, Mamdani-mania, and Newsom trollery have more in common than you might think.

She was right. The campaign was right.

It’s worth pointing this out. Not to have an “I told you so” moment, but so we can learn to believe people when they tell you that things are going to be really, really bad if you elect the guy who promises to do really, really bad things.

When we posted this last year, MAGA called us “fear mongers” and “liars”

Now it’s happening and MAGA is clapping like seals

Today was the last jobs report you can trust under this administration.

And it shows the weakest jobs market since the last recession.

The White House’s digital strategy is unoriginal AI slop that’s almost as tacky, hateful, and poisonous as their boss is.

It’s bad and they should feel bad.

The messaging fight on this bill is just starting.

Yes, MAGA owns every death resulting from this bill. Yes, most people on this website know this. But the information environment is *very* broken.

Communicating this to the voters we need is going to take smart, relentless tactics

Zohran Mamdani’s win is a paradigm shift for Democrats. We either embrace the internet and attention economy, or we will get left behind.

This from @ezraklein.bsky.social and @chrislhayes.bsky.social is exactly right. You can’t just throw wads of cash to reach voters in the attention economy

Dems must recruit for, invest in, and empower creative digital talent. There’s no shortcut around that

Mamdani ran a campaign that embraced the internet, went everywhere, and took risks.

It was a breath of fresh air that contrasted to the traditional Dem playbook that’s grown stale with voters. Campaigns everywhere should take note

Just so we’re all following

1) Elon spends ~$300M to elect Trump

2) Trump gives him the federal government

3) Elon guts the agencies that regulate his companies

4) Trump holds an infomercial for Elon’s cars on the White House lawn

5) Elon gives Trump another $100M

Since this tweet, the Dow is down, the Nasdaq is down, and the S&P 500 is down.

Grocery prices are up and thousands of Americans have lost their jobs.

There’s been a lot written about how evil they are, but lest we forget that they are also just really, really stupid
February 27, 2025 at 5:48 PM
Two of the most successful viral moments from elected Dems in the past couple days involve calling Elon a “dick boss” and calling Trump’s Deputy Chief “stupid.”

There is a huge appetite among voters to see Democrats get in the mud and bring the fight to this admin. Lean into it.

Trump before the election: “When I win, I will immediately bring prices down starting on day one.”

Trump tonight: “Inflation is back.”
February 19, 2025 at 3:24 AM
The idea that the grassroots anti-Trump resistance is “demoralized” or “depressed” has been overstated.

You may not see it on Musk’s Twitter, but protests are growing and liberal engagement on more “normie” platforms like Facebook has been skyrocketing since January 20th.

During the campaign, Trump promised to “end inflation” starting “on day one.”

Now he’s saying his tariffs are going to raise prices and cause Americans “pain.”

The guys putting a Fox host in charge of the military, a January 6 supporter in charge of the FBI, and an anti-vax quack in charge of the health department are lecturing everyone on having “the best standards in who you’re hiring”
Hesgeth and Vance use the Washington D.C. airliner-helicopter crash to make anti-diversity, equity and inclusion points, suggesting it was to blame for the collision.

The Vice President didn't even open his remarks by referencing the victims or families - just straight into anti-DEI points.
