Bad news: I wrote to the Museum of Maritime Pets in Maine to ask how cat poops and pee were handled on ships before litter was invented. They didn't know! But they're very curious, too, and want me to keep them updated. We can all make educated guesses but I want to see what actual records say.

Here's how I look at it: Adaptations of books are just that, adaptations. They will not and can never be a one-to-one translation of what's on the page and what's in your head. Don't expect that, and instead see how it plays the changes. If it still keeps the overall vibe you loved, it's a winner.
I'm afraid. I have a hard time trusting screen versions of books I love. I'm not sure they'll convey the dry humor, the impatience, the puzzledness, or the Murderbotness of Murderbot.

There’s no take backs on fascism. There’s no easy undo button. You don’t get a do-over on both-sidesing the big ol whoopsie of mass suppression and cruelty. Not adequately portraying the threat is both awfully short sighted and almost always viewed as complicity in the eyes of history.
