Not one coherent argument why it's okay for anyone, but especially supposedly progressive people, to keep posting (socially!) on a platform whose very infrastructure is being used to mass humiliate and abuse women and children

There are real people, real women, real girls whose images have been edited by grok at the request of users.

This is not some fictionalised, nebulous harm.

That the 'adults in the room' and 'rules-based order' governments are humming and hawwing over taking a firm line on this is extraordinary

If we care about protecting women and children, we need to stop banging on about the ethnicity, colour or religion of the perpetrator.

A woman in Britain is far more likely to be attacked by a White man that she knows than a random “foreigner”.

We’re not protecting women by ignoring that!

I heard a conversation about adult sex abuse, where the belief was if the victim didn’t react, it wasn’t abuse!

As someone who experienced abuse, being groped at a funeral by a priest, I can tell you that shock, disbelief & embarrassment play a massive part in not reacting*.

Believe survivors.

Remarkable how brutal the ruling against Trump on Abrego Garcia truly is: It details flagrant and malicious abuses of power all throughout. Trump and Stephen Miller were testing their ability to spread lawless state terror. But the court held the line. 1/

Coffee thoughts:

Ireland is a polity where you can go and visit a Minister in a constituency office on a weekend to ask for help filling in a form.

The distance to/from officeholders is effectively zero.

But the distance for most people from *power* can be (invisible to them) huge.

And, given the fact that the register of lobbyists features a record of the same Minister being lobbied by Facebook on this exact plan a few weeks ago, I think we may safely let the Magi know they will be spared a trek to Limerick this year.
