Well isn't that just the most delightfully perfect frame for Little Moreton Hall?

Love a rainbow!

To localize or not to localize? That was the question...
"Celsius 233: the temperature at which book paper burns." The 1955 Danish translation, with title converted to centigrade, represents one of the first foreign language editions of Fahrenbeit 451. All other Latin alphabet foreign language editions have been published with the original title restored

Swearwords, unlike other parts of vocabulary, can be used both positively or negatively.

Thank fuck for that.

Folks @ciol-linguists.bsky.social and #translators #t9n we have a real problem if an Oxford academic (Fabian Stephany) has no idea what we do and is advising MSM such as @skynewsrss.bsky.social incorrectly like this. I just hope he’s been misquoted 1/2

I’m not complaining but just a little puzzled…. I’ve gained 23 new followers in the last 24 hrs, mostly translators. What did I do right (wrong)? I don’t post very much so I hope you’re not all disappointed 😉

Congratulations @dannybate.bsky.social ! What an excellent recommendation to get!
This brilliant new book is all about the linguistic history of each letter of the alphabet, and I’ve hugely enjoyed reading it — I highly recommend you all get a copy! 👇👌
I now believe it's real.

A big thank you to @edzitron.com for giving time to the translation profession in part 1 of #betteroffline this week.

Just to prove the point that some clients just don’t care about quality, I offer up this example found by a colleague’s sister on her blood pressure cuff - on a *medical device*

A very special #CursedCarol for a very special day.

Happy 80th birthday, Sir John Rutter.

Thanks for your ceaseless championing of choral music, your many decades of bringing joy to singers and listeners alike, and your many, many key changes.

This is key.
Whether it's Trump or Farage, 'Overreach' is in the Hard Right Populist's DNA. It is the son and daughter of 'doubling down'/becoming more extreme over time, and it is their greatest weakness in a democracy, causing voters to ultimately turn against them.

I think the judges had an all terrier motive.

What a shockingly dangerous article 👀
Justice is supposed to be blind and the UK judiciary is independent of politics, unlike the US. The insinuation of political bias shaping judges’ rulings seems designed to undermine public confidence in the legal system

Do I know anyone here (or someone who knows someone) working as a client adviser/relationship manager in a bank, either now or in the fairly recent past?

Reason I ask is I'm looking for 3-5 such people to interview in the next couple of weeks for a study paper.

Grateful for any contacts! TIA

One of my favourite accounts quoting one of my favourite musicals
Naught but a leap to the left
And thanne a clockwyse tread;
Put thyne handes on thyne hippes,
And be thy knees yn-gatheréd:
Lo, it ys the pelvique thruste
That maketh mirthe down to rayne -
Let us do the Tyme Warpe agayne!
