This is what you get for mistreating translators 🫠 It's karma
Omg that terrible magazine that approached me about publishing my translations while I was fighting the British Museum and then published my work without contracts or proofs in place... has shut down (last year apparently, i was not paying attention)

Who needs professional translators?

I think biblical translators should just render the ‘untranslatable’ direct object marker את as @.

Don’t @ me.

Appreciate translators.

Humans, not AI.

I’m already on record here as supporting real translators for real translations. I have too much respect and appreciation for my own translators to ever NOT be supportive … and I detest this Amazon play, even if we all knew it was coming.

I would like Countess and Skin Thief available in French BUT they must be translated by a human who gets paid.

I work with words, and I do not support taking work away from translators. Translation isn't just Word equivalent computing. I don't want that for my books or translators.

i do not like koji fox's translation work basically at all but even my ability to say that rests on square understanding that translators and localisers are themselves key voices in a project

the firefox heel turn is perhaps one of the saddest stories for the open web

doubling down on LLMs-for-everything now involves crowding out the translators support.mozilla.org/en-US/forums... imagine how many hours of painstaking human work have just been thrown out in favour of machine translation

If any questions should be asked first about what this means for literature then the 1st question should be about Palestinian lit and all the writers and translators who were killed and who are currently still starving

Then about the way institutions have worked to silence Palestinian Americans

#Writingcommunity This is awful. I didn't spend thousands of dollars on French, German, Italian and Spanish translations by wonderful human translators for them to have to compete with AI generated translations.
I feel so sorry for the translators who are going to lose work because of this. #FuckAI

Definitely ‘Amplitudes: Stories of Queer and Trans Futurity’ from @erewhonbooks.bsky.social! Editing this project was such a powerful joy, especially right now, and I’m honored by all the amazing writers & translators who contributed and entrusted me with their stories.

No, people who want to be accurate and who respect their audiences continue to hire and consult real human translators.

Put simply, SE's LQA testers take a proactive role in the final stages of localization and ensure that our final edits are as spotless as possible. While the translators and editors SE hires are quite talented, QA always deserves credit for making sure our vision is, in fact, implemented correctly.

I have always been surprised (and annoyed) by the ambiguity of the Yiddish preposition ‹far› פֿאַר:
1. for, as, in exchange for, in place of (= German ‹für›)
2. in front of, before (= German ‹vor›)
It is sometimes confusing even for native speakers or translators.

THAT is why I find it so insulting that anybody in upper management would dare to think they should lay off anybody in QA, let alone replace huge swaths of it with gen AI. A lot of people who aren't the famous translators you know pour in blood, sweat, and tears to bring each loc to the finish line.

I really enjoyed reading this review. I wish it had mentioned Krasznahorkai's translators. George Szirtes translated The Melancholy of Resistance. I translated Herscht 07769, the book under review here.

Even a simple byline at the top. 'Translated by...' It's important.+

Gina does the no-event calendar but it included a sovereignty oath thing on 25 December for a change. Perfect way to spend Christmas.

Then the usual spelling URLs, begging for housing for the homeless culties, pleading for more translators and the rest of the daily drivel.
