Hello. I wrote a nice long essay about AI and this very strange moment where we're constantly told we're living in the dawn of a strange new future but the only thing that's actually clear is that everyone feels pretty unmoored and uncertain. I hope you'll read it
AI Is a Mass-Delusion Event
Three years in, one of AI’s enduring impacts is to make people feel like they’re losing it.

The amount of people decrying ChatGPT while using AI image generators and vice versa pisses me off so bad I can't see straight. Don't use any of them! They're all based on exploitation of creators and the continued destruction of the environment! ALL of it is bad!

the shameless, chortling glee with which the "passionate about health" crowd reacts when a fat person dies young has taught me lessons about human nature that I will never forget

Hospital acquired COVID has a 10% fatality rate & is almost completely avoidable with clean air & masking

Why aren’t we doing it? Why aren’t people enraged when someone goes in for care & dies of COVID?

It’s because they think those vulnerable people were going to die soon anyways. It’s eugenics

it is So Cool And Good that once you become a certain level of known that you lose all personhood and instead become a constellation of ideas and loose signifiers for people to interpret as they see fit, divining whatever meaning is most useful for them at the time
I've learned having minor visibility online is that there are people who go from liking your work to hating *you* based on their interpretation of one sentence. No seeking clarification, no questioning whether or not they misunderstood, no room to misspeak or make mistakes--you're just the villain.

You all desperately need to consider the possibility that it’s ok and good actually for disabled people to exist and our existence doesn’t make our lives less real or worthy or human. We’re not a drain on society. We’re not a burden. We’re literally just people.

I support trans rights; I recognise and respect trans people and their right to exist the same as others; I resent and object to the tired lies that bigots promote. Trans rights are human rights.

Reinfections aren’t harmless.
Every time you catch COVID, you increase the risk of long COVID, organ damage, and chronic illness—even if you “felt fine” during the infection.

How are you going to leverage this hostile government takeover?

Remember, there are 24 usable hours in every day and you cannot dissociate during all of them.

Please, if you love anything about this life, stop using ChatGPT and other GenAI. Just stop. Don't use it to dunk on it, don't use it for a laugh, just stop and let that shit wither.

Nostalgia for something that never existed is a deep underpinning of both conservatism as a whole and fascism.

It’s also honestly funny to watch these children screech about democratizing art or whatever when what they’re doing is more akin to gentrification.

When you hear billionaires and bosses sing the praises of AI making human workers unnecessary, I urge you to remember: the streets and alleys and graveyards are all full to bursting with the human workers the bosses "made unnecessary."

openai’s new ghibli “generator” is explicitly an intentional attempt at humiliation of a prominent objector

openai is culturally fascist as well as functionally fascist

it’s not an accident

College was where I became an exvangelical, but I was only able to go due to privilege, so this is such a good point.
Free college education would help a significant number of young adults have a place to go and get their lives started away from evangelicalism

People need to see a life outside these communities

and it would help if they could see happy adult ex-evangelicals to know that a life after is possible

- feels like taking a stroll among big bugs in the Carboniferous
