I've written 1,555 pages' worth of stories in my dumb universe / setting. Even if no one else ever reads any of it, it's not NOTHING, right? It's objectively SOMETHING. It exists. I'm looking at it.

It's not nothing.

Do writers maintain things like a master character list for their setting? I've been thinking of compiling one just as a way of keeping myself sharp when I'm having issues advancing my stories, and because I know I'm going to forget side characters I'd like to bring back. But how to categorize...

I'm doing a re-read of Needful Things, one of King's more chaotic stories, and I guess the main character would either be the antagonist, Leland Gaunt, or the sheriff, Alan Pangborn, depending on your perspective. I would be a fucking terrible cop... And probably a bad supernaturally evil merchant.
Well, now I'm an English professor...

It's incredible the number of people who will call something "bad writing" when what they actually mean is "the writer isn't using the canon / continuity / mythology / rationale I prefer or know best, therefore the story itself is invalid and I'm going to seethe about it with tears in my eyes".

When I got home today it was 27 degrees outside and the sun was basically down already. Yet there was somebody outside using a leaf blower for almost 40 straight minutes. It only lends further credence to my theory that constant, obsessive lawn maintenance is indicative of a severe mental imbalance.

I'm in a nebulous space with more than half-a-dozen stories in progress, most already over a hundred pages long, but basically all of them are mired in boring but necessary plot development and I keep doing the authorial version of wandering off after seeing something shiny (AKA another story idea).

Does anybody else remember this random ass game? I had the Super Putty version for SNES. Every once in a while the cat saying "Too bad, juuuust missed it" pops into my head unbidden and I finally had to look it up. Young me had no clue how to play it.

Crypt Custodian was fantastic. I struggled at points, because it's a metroidvania and I have the memory of a concussed goldfish, but I muddled through the mire and absolutely loved it from start to finish. Thoughtful, fun, a bit sad (but not too sad) and with truly wonderful characters. Loved it!

Nobody Saves the World was an utter delight from start to finish. It made me hungry for more overarching narratives, so I started Crypt Custodian next. It's a metroidvania, which I tend to bounce off of, but so far it's been wonderful to play. We'll see if my tendency to get lost will ruin it lol.

A man’s pet fish couldn’t swim due to its illness/disability.

So he made him a swimming harness.

He created an accommodation so his fish could live his best life.

This is how it’s done!

I'm going to share a thought that I think will resonate with anyone who has ever experienced moderate to severe respiratory illness:

Where does all of this shit COME FROM!? HOW IS THERE SO MUCH OF IT!? WHY DOESN'T IT EVER RUN OUT!? And how do I even BEGIN to breathe with SO MUCH OF IT always left!?

Nothing will ever emphasize to me just how utterly divergent humanity can be than knowing that Chris Brown still has LEGIONS of fans who will weep hysterically and reach for him in love and lust while he performs despite knowing (slash not believing) what a fucking sadistic monster he is.

The Call of Duty guy died because he was driving at triple-digit speeds on a public road. Thanks to him being an irresponsible, narcissistic asshole, he and another person are dead. Fuck any well wishing for him. This was all down to a decision he made. Who gives a shit what games he helped develop?

Wearing a mask in public and to work again feels... "Nostalgic" is absolutely not the right word, but it's the closest I can get to the general shape of the sentiment I'm feeling? Equal parts "familiar" and "evocative of a specific time when I truly thought life couldn't possibly get any stupider".

I've been sick as hell since Thursday night so excuse the late #caturday post but how could I not share these photos of my sweet lil' lady Kenma? I love how much she adores cuddling with my ratty old coat - I always lay it on my couch for her and she gravitates towards it immediately.
