my wife worked for a catholic hospital and gave birth to our last child there and _their own obstetrician_ told her to get her tubes tied because it was _medically necessary_ and the hospital wouldn't allow it to be done with her c-section because it was against their beliefs, even though we're jews
Many people dismissed the announcement Catholic hospitals will ban gender-affirming care nationwide under the assumption that there will be other options. In reality, Catholic hospitals make up as much 46% of options in some states. This map is 2020, prior to Trump’s assault on safety net hospitals.

I got it... I actually got it... Interstellar comet 3i, imaged from the middle of light-polluted Kendal, at 6am this morning, using my Seestar S50... This comet was already billions of years old before our Sun was even *born*... Very chuffed with this!

Yesterday, a friend of mine sent a letter from Edinburgh. At the Post Office, the person at the counter insisted that Northern Ireland wasn’t in the UK and that the letter would need a customs declaration or else it would be “destroyed”. What a fucking world.

Read a piece about how AI is eating up graduate entry positions and I can see how that would happen, in law for example, solicitors cut their teeth on wading through mountains of discovery, doing dull conveyance checks and form filling. AI will eat that up in big firms. And the Labour is all for it

This is really very scary for any number of reasons, but mostly because fundamental human rights should be fundamental - they should not be subject to removal at the whim of a government. Article 3 is non-derogable (you are not able to deviate from it for any reason). It should not be up for debate!
If you currently rely on the European Court of Human Rights for your minority group to *not* be targeted, you're in trouble...

Just to pick up on this:
One reason my mates and i loved playing Star Wars as kids was BECAUSE it threw out all these references to events that weren't explained.
We were used to adults around us doing that IRL about WW2 or whatever. So it didn't feel weird. It made the universe feel REAL.

A good story is as long as it needs to be. We don’t need to expand every detail, uncover every facet, some things can be left as mystery. A battle can be a sentence, a romance can be a look, a tragedy a word.
