There’s City of Victoria’s police budget, hiring retired VicPD, salary + pension + hiring bonus

“They need to start looking at policing as a helping profession, a compassion profession.”

OR

we could have health & social services instead of police everywhere

this isn’t ok.

See, this isn't true. I see no evidence that people with bad politics consistently produce good scholarship, and, actually, future scholars are left now with the mess of determining how much even the neutral-seeming work has been warped by delusion and hate (spoiler: probably a lot)
The politics here are reprehensible but also really sad. He was a great scholar once. He had philological skills that no one has anymore. There are very few people who could produce that kind of work today. And to some extent, that's what this is about. He's mad that our field lost its former status
The reason this Harvard history professor decided he was done with one of the best and most privileged jobs in the world was, in his own words, because he was forced to lecture in a mask during peak Covid.

I’m not making this up.

International aid organizations are under absolutely no obligation whatsoever, legally or morally, to provide information about their workers in a territory that Israel has no sovereignty over or any right to occupy.
If you read the articles, they are blocking 15% of the NGOs until they comply with vetting the way all the other NGOs did. Let’s all use what God and your mama gave you: your brain, common sense and the desire to share truth.

My dad has had heart events since he was admitted. Now, if he feels angina, he has to ding a tiny bell and hope a nurse outside the ward hears him. “Or you can shout as loud as you can,” they told him.

Using the housing "crisis" to try to get racists votes (which won't work) is disgusting towards immigrants, but also towards people in housing insecurity because it's telling them that solving their life-threatening issue is less important than catering to the racist crowd.
Sorry but we literally debunked this like last month when he did this dog whistle. Fintan O'Toole literally did the maths, in the Times no less, that showed that this isn't true.

Why are we bothering to publish such an obvious lie when we know it's a lie?

On this last day of 2025, I'd like to remember the forgotten: Lizzy II. Remember how mere years ago how we were told the loss of her was an epochal event? And now there's her son in there and the epoch seems to be rolling on to its likely disastrous conclusion.

That somehow cheers me up a bit.
