We’re thrilled to welcome Cllr Tina Valcarcel to the Liberal Democrat group! 🧡

After nearly 20 years as a Labour councillor, Tina says Labour has moved away from her values — and she’s found her home with the Lib Dems.

Welcome, Tina! ✨

This morning I’m in Whitehall near the Cenotaph, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens—who also designed the Drum Inn in Cockington. Its chimneys echo the Cenotaph’s form. Later I’ll join the Remembrance service in Westminster Hall. A powerful moment to reflect.

Nowhere in the hysterical pile-on against the BBC in the British press has anyone mentioned that BBC News now has 77 million viewers & listeners in the US and has established itself as the second most trusted news source there.

Trump wants to destroy the BBC and take our money. And Nigel Farage is egging him on.

All true patriots should tell them both: hands off our BBC.

To stop Britain going the way of America, we need to protect the BBC.

The BBC, with other public service broadcasters like ITV, is critical to making sure our society doesn't fragment into polarised groups.
Quick thread on the BBC and the political and societal significance of recent developments:

One of the main reasons the UK has historically been so much less polarised than the US, is that Britain has a shared source of information, consumed and trusted by most people regardless of their politics.

Last week, I outed myself as a gamer, something I don’t really ever talk about, and contributed to a debate on consumer protections for gamers.

Now spending my evening trying to figure out how to play Europa Universalis V.

I said if I was elected I would be unapologetically me!

The BBC isn't perfect. But it remains an institution defending British values against a populist, Trump-style takeover.

Party leaders must unite to defend it.

It was an honour to attend the Remembrance commemorations in St Andrews and Cupar yesterday. An important tome to remember all who served and those who continue to serve for our country today.

The BBC isn’t perfect, but it is a key institution in protecting our democracy by delivering scrutiny, accountability & truth in an era of increasingly populist politics.

Now, more than ever, the BBC must rebuild trust. And we must all defend a free press, free speech, and an independent BBC.
