42.5% of car thefts in Devon & Cornwall went unsolved last year. I’m calling for a car theft crackdown with a specialist team to stop criminals getting away scot-free. Victims deserve justice.

🚧 Wales & West are upgrading gas pipes in Brim Hill, Torquay from 5 Jan to end of March. Road closures: Steep Hill (5 Jan–23 Feb), Rock House Lane (2–23 Feb), Brim Hill (2 Feb–2 Apr). Businesses open. Allow extra travel time. #Torquay #Roadworks

Great to meet South Devon Police Commander Roy Linden recently. We discussed local concerns like the rise of E-scooters and the wider challenges facing policing as they rebuild after austerity cuts. Strong community links are vital, and I’ll keep sharing your views with the force.

In Parliament I spoke on the Local Government Finance Settlement and congratulated Anna Coles and Torbay Adult Social Care on their ‘good’ CQC rating. I asked if the new funding strategy will protect areas like Torbay with older populations. #Torbay #SocialCare

From my childhood home on Windsor Road, Torquay United’s ground was always part of the view – a reminder of how deeply the club is woven into our community.

Last week, I met Michael Westcott and Tim Herbert to discuss the challenges ahead and the exciting plans under the Bryn consortium.

🎄 Huge thanks to Brian and the amazing Royal Mail team in Paignton! They’re working flat out to keep Torbay connected this Christmas. Your dedication ensures cards and parcels reach loved ones. We appreciate all you do!

NHS dentistry is in crisis. Torbay and Devon are now dental deserts, and I hear daily from residents who cannot access urgent care. The Government’s tweaks with no new funding will not fix this. We need bold action to guarantee emergency NHS dental treatment for all. #Torbay #NHS

I welcomed the UK’s return to the Erasmus scheme and asked if it could be extended to help language schools like International House Torquay by allowing German students to travel in groups with ID cards, as in Italy and Switzerland. #Erasmus #Torbay

Torbay’s award-winning integrated care model just earned a ‘good’ rating. Ending the Section 75 partnership would be a grave mistake. Full public consultation is essential before dismantling this nationally recognised best practice.

We’ve written to the Secretary of State calling for urgent action on business rates. Torbay’s small businesses face huge hikes. The government must honour its pledge to cut rates and consider a VAT cut for hospitality. #SupportSmallBusiness #Torbay

Torbay Lib Dem councillors have secured a review of memorial bench charges after families faced bills of up to £12,000. We believe benches should be about remembrance, not revenue, and will keep pushing for a fair and compassionate policy. #Torbay #FairPrices

Pleased to have attended Campaign for National Parks’ Parliamentary reception yesterday, celebrating young National Park champions and the New Perspectives project. I also signed the youth governance declaration to support a more inclusive future for our National Parks.
December 17, 2025 at 5:30 PM
Pleased to have attended UNISON’s Police Staff Parliamentary Event yesterday, highlighting the vital but often overlooked work of police staff. We continue to call for the removal of officer number targets so forces can recruit the right mix to keep communities safe.

With 85% of our meat coming from industrial farming, the report The Animals Farmed highlighted why clear and honest labelling matters. People deserve informed choices about what they buy. Great to meet actress Diane Morgan too, who was delighted to meet Jennie.

Yesterday I sponsored the Industry Vision Group reception in Parliament, celebrating their new report on best practice in Devon that is transforming eye care pathways and improving outcomes for patients. Great to join Grahame and Tessa from Devon in Sight.

December 15, 2025 at 5:30 PM
Torbay Coast & Countryside Trust is now entering formal liquidation. The council will take back sites like Occombe Farm, Berry Head and Cockington Park. We need open consultation, clear communication and a firm commitment to protect access, nature and heritage. No closed-door decisions.

Flu admissions are surging, putting Torbay’s A&E under huge strain. I am calling for vaccines in pubs, churches, supermarkets and roaming jab vans to get more jabs in arms, protect vulnerable residents and prevent our NHS from reaching breaking point this winter.
