On the late, great, Steve Cropper who most people probably remember from the backing band in The Blues Brothers. The HBO documentary on Stax Records (currently on NOW TV) is well worth watching both to understand his contribution and why, to me at least, America is such a strange place.

To be clear: deportations to increase cultural homogeneity is the text book definition of ethnic cleansing. Demands that come even close to this are so far outside any democratic norm and the rule of law. What has happened to a country when this is not condemned in the strongest possible terms?

Before deciding to make a comedy, Kubrick originally tried to adapt the 1958 novel “Red Alert” by Peter George (writing under the pseudonym Peter Bryant and originally titled “Two Minutes to Doom”). “Fail Safe” is an adaptation of the 1962 novel of the same name by Eugene Burdick and Harvey Wheeler.
