RIP Jesse Jackson

Will always remember seeing him speak in Hyde Park, alongside Harold Pinter, against the invasion of Iraq, back in Feb 2003. I was 20, at my first rally, and it was freezing – but electrifying. "Give peace a chance"

This duet cover of Radiohead's "Creep", between a son and his Shastriya Sangeet classically trained mother, is the mash-up I didn't know how much I needed in my life. Totally spontaneous sobbing may have taken place.

Have always found bradycardia a rather odd boast

To quote the literature: "Bradycardic athletes have an increased risk of permanent pacemaker"
Van der Poel has a wildly low resting heart rate 😲

While talking WHOOP Founder & CEO Will Ahmed on their podcast, Mathieu Van der Poel revealed his extremely low heart rate and impressive HRV data.

Make this decades for cycling 😂
Not liking spectator sport is one of the best life hacks going. Over a lifetime you'll end up with literally years of time to dedicate to whatever you want, compared to spending it being pointlessly obsessed with other people playing a game

Can't help wondering how this broke down. Probably not a £10 BJ on a £599,990 Louis XV chair?

Certain cycling teams being obstructive to journalists is obvs not new - but the fact it's getting worse is very ominous
It's been a frustrating week dealing with some major men's and women's teams requesting changes to quotes pre-publication. This has become the norm in recent years and it's setting a very worrying precedent for the future. Independent publications are not PR vehicles for teams/riders.

Would be good if the Prime Minister and/or Home Secretary would for once come out and describe this as the unadulterated racism and xenophobia it so clearly is.

oh, Jack has nailed something here: the idea of assigning an age to someone is bang on. My parents are forever in their late 40s; my dad being nearly 87 is a shock each time I see him. Ditto John Major being 82. My nieces are all forever about 11, etc etc
John Major is 82 which will come as a shock to those (me) who assigned him the age of 55 and never revisited the fact.

Peter Mandelson did not happen in isolation. He was enabled by a class of politicians, media & corporate business & is the embodiment of a rotten, venal, self-serving political & economic system. Below: Jon Sopel writing that "Mandelson is a class act" one year ago.
