In a workshop to help professors catch AI cheating, I prompted Gemini to write me a bleeding heart emotional appeal on a topic. It spit out a lecture about rationality and how I should argue based on logic. My one and only use of AI was enough to convince me of that.
I don't understand how anyone can watch how blatantly Grok is manipulated to answer the way ownership desires it to and then act like the other LLM chatbots couldn't possibly be similarly but less obviously compromised to produce responses in whatever way corporate interests and priorities dictate.

And Trump nixed the free option. Fantastic.
TurboTax is about to be integrated into ChatGPT, where customers will be guided through tasks tied to their tax filings or financial profile by the AI chatbot.

TurboTax owner Intuit is also paying OpenAI more than $100 million a year to power AI agents.

Portland State University AAUP won their arbitration regarding the layoffs of 10 non-tenure track faculty!✊

An arbitrator ruled the university bypassed shared governance protocols required by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

All 10 laid-off faculty must be reinstated!

Found out today that my op-ed has made the opposite side of the union bargaining table Big Mad. Thanks for the reminder that I didn’t post it here: ctmirror.org/2025/11/04/f...

And for the record, it violates zero of the bargaining rules but it’s nice to vex them with the truth #aaup #csu-aaup
Opinion: Faculty matter most. So where’s the support?
Faculty “is the #1 predictor for student return, retention, and graduation, above and beyond all other factors.

look I know being an engaged citizen IS the work of democracy but it is also the work of elected officials not to create situations where everyone has to be mobilized all the time to prevent them from allowing some kind of Dickensian horror on a Sunday night while you're in between loads of laundry

My university ran a workshop to detect AI cheating that asked us to use it multiple times, so technically I have but Lordy it felt queasy. Also, would have refused if I realized then how garbage detection systems are anyway. AI labeling AI…I’m so tired.
I've never even looked at a ChatGPT screen, nor any other "AI tool" out there. Never will. It's all theft. (Also a stubborn Taurus here.)
Hands up if you've never used Chat GPT ✋

(I feel like Dozer and Tank in The Matrix right now - at first I didn't use it because, rather ironically, I'm lazy and stubborn (peak Taurus energy there) - literally no, don't make me use the new thing I don't wanna. Now I'm glad I didn't 😅)

I spotted this on Mastodon and I find it horrible, not least for the speed with which this has happened.

Just unlocked a new political fear. Been calling to get Connecticut Gov to spend the rainy day fund and end unnecessary austerity — was reminded that where the Gov wants all those billions to be is with Wall Street— meaning that CT’s savings could be lost when the AI bubble bursts.

In their attempt to blame it on the childcare worker, they admit that their presence there inherently endangered the children. But, of course, the cruelty is the point.
The Department of Homeland Security released a statement about this incident. They deny targeting the daycare and claim they tried to pull the vehicle over but she ran into her workplace to barricade herself along with another man in the vehicle

A nationwide backlash to AI data centers is brewing.

And for good reason: while AI enriches Big Tech CEOs and props up the stock market, data centers are sucking up communities’ water and power.

When the AI bubble bursts, the rest of us will be stuck holding the bag. Be warned.
