With James Comey’s indictment, President Trump “has removed any pretense that the law is blind,” the editorial board writes. “As despots have done for centuries, he is persecuting people he considers his enemies, with little justification other than raw political power.”

ICE *already* can't meet their detainment numbers without rounding up children, veterans, people born in the U.S., people with no criminal records, people at immigration hearings, plus academics and visitors with valid visas.

So who do they plan to detain with >10x the budget?

The answer is: you.
If the GOP reconciliation bill passes, ICE gets through FY2029:

- $45 billion for detention, on top of the current annual budget of $3.4 billion
- $14.4 billion for transportation and removal, on top of the current annual budget of $750 million
- $8 billion for hiring/retention
- Billions more.

A reminder that when you make a new armed force like this, it doesn’t ever get shut down, job done. It continues to be given new reasons to exist, with new enemies invented to justify its existence due to ever increasing vested interests.
If the bill passes, it will make ICE the nation’s largest jailer, with more funding for prison camps than the entire federal Bureau of Prisons. It would give ICE enough money to have more officers than the entire FBI.
This Is Ethnic Cleansing.

I know I'm not the first person or even the millionth person to point this out; it's not even the first time *I* have said it, but this is what actual First Amendment violations look like and the fact that none of the supposed free speech warriors are saying anything about it tells us everything.

This is exactly why so many disabled patients are terrified to go to the hospital.

Terrified to give up autonomy and control to those who would mock them for clicks.

The utter disrespect for our lives is too common within the medical system.

Trump bombing Iran was illegal and unjustified.

I ran for Congress to make sure our leaders consider the true costs of war.

And I will be in the Senate, standing on my titanium legs, demanding answers from Trump.

It's kind of amazing how quickly the Unitary Executive turned into exactly the kind of monstrous 'elective monarchy' (ie what we now call a 'caudillo') the Founders worried the Presidency might become if unchecked.

The greatest empirically falsified fuckup in US jurisprudence since Dred Scott.
You have my solemn word that I will follow this conflict with all the seriousness and dedication the president did in deciding on the use of force and making the case to Congress and the public. To do otherwise would go against the values of the American people.

He's saying, "This isn't happening to white Republicans, so it's fine."

These guys hold hearings for months if a Republican gets a letter from the government.

If Republicans thought there was a chance masked government officials would hunt them in the streets, they would be flipping tanks.
MIKE JOHNSON: From the people who mandated mask wearing for years, it's absurd. They need to back off ICE & respect our agents

Q: So you're ok w/agents not identifying themselves when they're arresting migrants?

J: Why, so they can target them? So they can put names and faces online and dox them?

This isn't actually funny at all; it's a window into Trump's worldview, because he absolutely expected any German official to be upset over the Nazis losing.

Because if Trump were German, he would be.

Because things like "they were fucking Nazis" are way less important to him than "on my team"
Imagine saying that to the German Chancellor

We don’t need to back off the American Gestapo and we don’t need to respect its agents. People exercising state violence are not entitled to anonymity. Nor are the people directing the state violence.

See this? It's called a non-inferiority trial. It compares the new vaccine with the current vaccines to see if the new vaccine does better. This new vaccine did.

Placebo-controlled trials are not needed to test most new vaccines. Demanding them will only reduce vaccine access. Which is the point.
