Forty years ago, 90% of media outlets were spread across 50 companies.

Now, just 5 companies control 90% of the media market.

This consolidation hurts consumers and helps oligarchs. 🧵

After the avalanche of weddings that Covid delayed, I thought I’d never want to get invited to another one.

But today I realized how long it’s been since I absolutely danced to Like A Prayer, so let’s start saving those dates plz and thank you

this shit right here is wrecker shit, as much as wrecker shit as any online leftist has done, if not more so. no wonder so many people are repulsed by anyone (rightly) saying 'vote blue no matter who', the most powerful elected Dem in the nation won't do it! it undermines the whole coalition! jfc

The failure of the “blue no matter who” crowd to rally behind Mamdani really just lays the reality of that position bare, doesn’t it?

Once again the Chicago marathon television broadcast is criminally bad. If they can livestream remote mountain ultras now, surely these jabronis can figure out how to aim the cameras at the runners.

Salvation Army seen feeding ICE today. For anyone who doesn't already know about their bigotry, here is more, No need to give them your money this Christmas, or ever.
It’s dinner time for the police. Appears to be pizza from a Salvation Army van.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

Forced to work a 9-5. Meant to be sitting around picking about the nuances of how disappointing it is for Taylor to write a Charli xcx diss track in a post- Girl, so confusing featuring Lorde world.

My least popular (and most correct) view is that cars should be automatically limited to the local speed limit. Put the pedal to the floor and you still can't go over 25mph in a residential area.

(15 in Manhattan btw)
There is no possible justification for limiting e-bikes to 15mph but not cars.

🌧️ NYC would be much better prepared for massive downpours if we had rain gardens and bioswales on every flood-prone corner.

Another reason why we need @cmjuliewon.bsky.social's universal daylighting bill! Public space should be for the public benefit: preventing floods.

Please support your local libraries. They're the epitome of "knowledge is for everyone & must be free." They provide services to the homeless & rent out laptops for students in need. They're angels.

Use Libby, Hoopla, and Kanopy (The Godfather is on Hoopla to convince you 🎬!)

It's all FREE!
Alt text. This is pretty awful, but probably what has to be done to preserve the service at all.

IMLS still has a chance- please make sure to show support.

So I am glad Gillibrand apologized but she should really do so publicly, not privately, given her smear against him was done publicly, on live radio in fact.

He did clarify this position on this phrase that he did not himself say! He gave a super nuanced answer where he expressed empathy both for people who feel threatened by this phrase and also for the wide semantic range of the word "Intifada" in Arabic, and why it might feel empowering to others.
Hakeem Jeffries on Mamdani: "'Globalizing the intifada' by way of example is not an acceptable phrasing. He's gonna have to clarify his position on that as he moves forward."
