If it's anything like other AI companies, xAI spent *billions* on Grok, so it's literally orders of magnitude more humiliating than that
It's pretty humiliating to be the richest guy in the world and then sink millions into building a robot that hyperbolically tells the world how special you are.

Yeah, that's part of what I was trying to get at. Just reading the PHB, I'll go "Paladins seem cool I guess, but I'm not sure exactly who mine is and how they fit into the world around them". Tell me we're playing Eberron and I'll have a dozen paladin concepts I'd have fun trying out.
They also made the campaign setting generic as possible and therefore boring. They wanted to create a multiverse like marvel because they think that's their golden paycheck.
This feels akin to why I've drifted away from D&D. It wants to position itself as a generic toolbox, but the mechanics don't actually support that. And the semi-genericness means there's just not enough there to fire the imagination compared to games with a clear vision of what they're for.

I suppose my take on all this is that as of 2025, Dungeons and Dragons does not feel like a very coherent game/brand. Some of that is by design because they want to be the “everything” game. But I think they‘ve spread themselves a bit thin in terms of vibes/aesthetic.
