Kinda crazy to admit that you see ICE murdering Good, arresting kids, violating the 4th amendment, and people being upset about all that as a distraction, Bishop Barron ngl

This coming out just a few hours after this piece was written…

I wait with bated breath to hear Miles and those like him talk about the constitutional authority of this…

This is not “bad apples”; this is systemic, anti-American corruption & comparing ICE to the military is actively disrespectful

I’ve said it before but I think Trump’s charismatic clownery makes it easier for ppl to deflect when it comes to the fascist project of the administration, whereas putting Miller’s face/words at the forefront makes it harder to deflect bc of how charmless and overtly fascist he is
i think it is simply true that for all intents and purposes stephen miller is the president of the united states

One of my favorite films, A Man for All Seasons, depicts the martyrdom of St. Thomas More, who chose his conscience over the bullying of a king. How could this possibly apply to us?

Well, friends, Charlie Kirk risked his life denouncing another “king” (MLK)

A stadium filled with people from Miami and Indiana booed the hell out of Trump when he popped up on the screen during the National Anthem

“Memory (the deliberate act of remembering) is a form of willed creation. It is not an effort to find out the way it really was—that is research. The point is to dwell on the way it appeared and why it appeared in that particular way.” Morrison

When I first read Letter from Birmingham Jail years ago I was struck by how much MLK used Tradition (Scripture, Socrates, Augustine, Aquinas, Buber, etc) to carry his argument. It’s a good reminder that there’s a better story to be found within Tradition than the one being sold by reactionaries:

This game is going to come down to who wants to lose it the least.

For the politics people on this app, it’s like watching a race between a popularist and someone hand-picked by Peter Thiel.

The distinction between identifying as liberal, leftist, or anti-MAGA conservative functionally means literally nothing.

It has basically no bearing on someone's commitment to sets of ethical values and their willingness to act on them as it relates to the current domestic situation of America.

It’s amazing what colorization can achieve.

See example below of a photograph taken somewhere on the outskirts of Stalingrad in December of 1942:
i believe the photographer who is taking the photo is Christopher Katsarov of the Canadian Press, and here is his photo

Hannah Arendt on Montesquieu’s principle of despotism [fear] being subject to continual corruption:

“Tyranny generates impotence as naturally as other bodies politic generate power… It develops the germs of its own destruction the moment it comes into existence.”

In other words, we’re going to win

Yeah man, I’m having serious doubts about your anti-fascist credibility tbh

I’m psychologically prepared for the ‘28 election season when the usual suspects bring out the “but y’all said Trump was the worst and now y’all are saying Vance is worst than him” to paint the libs as hysterical and to provide cover for not voting against the GOP

The sexual psychology of MAGA is inseparable from that of Andrew Tate, which is explicitly rooted in a certain aggressively misogynistic, pornographic ideal, contrary to the epithet of “porn-addicted” being projected here

*minor OBAA spoilers*

Thinking about how that guy in the white supremacist Christmas Adventurer’s club said Avanti, the Native American, was “not a native son… not homegrown…actually part Comanche or Eskimo”

PTA really had his finger on the pulse, didn’t he?
Looks like ICE is now cracking down on … Native Americans.

This letter was just posted by the chairman of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in North/South Dakota:

“Our Nation is a sovereign government and our members are not immigrants. We are not subject to immigration enforcement on our own lands.”

"if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you"—Terry Eagleton paraphrasing Herbert McCabe
So there's a connection here, right? It's SPECIFICALLY her saintly demeanor that aggravated the guy. Anger and hate he's prepared for, he knows what those are, how to process them

But Good was placing herself above him, morally; literally being the better person. And that's just intolerable.

He’s always doing this bit where he plays the “calm and objective” historian, while watering-down or evading the moral corruption of the American Right.
