dragon quest 1 is in the air lately, so please enjoy this old blog exploring the development of one of my favorite relationships with a jrpg world map

...it is actually the party’s centrist establishment, not its progressive wing, that’s most likely to violate the maxim of “Vote Blue No Matter Who.”
Centrist Democrats Are the Actual Traitors to Their Party
While progressives often get accused of undermining the Democratic Party, the evidence shows that it’s the moderate wing that most often violates the “Vote Blue No Matter Who” principle.

one things that has always made me crazy that i hope more people are finally waking up to now: both in queer and feminist spaces and in general, trans women have been uniquely put on trial and made to answer for the crimes of patriarchy when we are by far some of its biggest victims.

of all the biases in the news media—and there are more of them than ticket to ride expansion packs—the "never give credit to the independent journalist who broke the story" bias is the one that they hate exposed the most because it shows you don't need $2 billion in production value to do journalism
CBS News quietly updated their story. I still don’t understand how WaPo could’ve reported it first if I was the one who “uncovered” it, but I guess it’s an improvement.

U.S. politics have always been chaotic and wildly partisan. In 1856, Southern pro-slavery Preston Brooks beat abolitionist Charles Sumner with a cane on the senate floor. Rather than hurting Brooks' rep, his supporters were so delighted they sent him walking canes as gifts. How far we haven't come.

CNN's Elie Honig pours cold water on the DHS report citing a 2022 traffic stop to claim Kilmar Abrego Garcia is a human trafficker: "This is not the smoking gun that they‘re trying to sell it as... it is a huge leap to go from the facts we have to this man is a human trafficker."

As someone who grew up when Metallica competed with Mariah Carey for album sales, I have often mourned the death of hard rock as a mainstream cultural force. “Where are the pissed off kids pounding their distortion pedals?” I have asked myself. I was pointed to this and it fucking shreds. Hats off.

It's true that us citizens get detained by ICE regularly but it's also true that now that we live in a time when "detained by ICE" might turn into "life sentence in a concentration camp before you even talk to a lawyer or judge," it's certainly higher stakes to be detained by ICE

Ah good, I see the new ZA/UM game trailer has brought out the 'There are no auteurs in games, only teams' folks.

Which, especially when talking about indie games, is absolute nonsense. Often there is just one person doing most of the worldbuilding, writing, creative direction and team management.

The general vibe I'm getting from the Dem party is one of sort of...rote apathy. They're refusing to treat any of this with a sense of urgency. Like it's some version of "normal" that just requires the same scoldy rhetoric. It really shows how much people like John Lewis were necessary & unusual.

i think the way Myst and Riven have aged is proof that 3D art can get better with age, especially as aesthetics lose context of the era a game is in.
