Wow, lot of food firsts today. Kiddo ate 1. carmelized onions 2. absolutely inhaled teriyaki tofu 3. carrot muffins. Because she's more of a sensory seeker than avoider she's always had a more flexible diet than a lot of other ND kid but still! Big leaps!

One guy tried, unsuccessfully, to blow up a plane with a bomb in his sneakers, and everybody had to take off their shoes at the airport for the next 20 years.

Chatbots have a collective body count equal to Richard "The Night Stalker" Ramirez, and they're trying to put them in schools.
30 years ago they were like we have to ban song lyrics for the children but it’s full steam ahead for the here’s how to do drugs until you die machine
“ChatGPT started coaching Sam on how to take drugs, recover from them and plan further binges. It gave him specific doses of illegal substances, and in one chat, it wrote, ‘Hell yes—let’s go full trippy mode’”

Had to explain a pun to my kiddo at the local donut shop and suddenly felt like I was channeling my favorite scene from Feet of Clay.

I've been watch of Smosh's Reddit Stories and Arasha Lalani said something in one that I think is really relevant; "All feelings are valid but they're not always reasonable". I sit with that a lot, personally.

My child: Mom, you are so pale and have red eyes and nung nung *hair when you wake up you look bald.
Me: ...super. If you'll excuse me, I'm going just going to find a cathedral to climb like the gargoyle I apparently am.
My child: You're so funny, I love you.
Me: ::bows::

We need to be sharing lists of who has what skills they are willing to do/share for free or low cost to help others.

Also finding exchanges of goods and services locally (or setting up if that isn't already set up) that are in person or at least not centered around facebook 😭😭😭

Yeeeah. There are a bunch of ways to work out these very legitimate feelings about the world in constructive ways. Communities to organize in. People to support. Creative endeavors to pour that energy into. It's like dunk culture. Temporarily gives relief but overall? Not healthy.
All these insufferable years of internet discourse might be a symptom of the larger problem of “shit’s bad” and I need people to recognize that they are lashing out at dumb shit that doesn’t matter on the internet because they feel powerless so they should do something about that… offline.

They’d been doing it to black feminists on twitter even before that. Twitter has had this problem for over a decade easily and they decided to side with the creeps (not to mention when I brought casework to them with CSAM in it as a trust and safety partner, they often said it was “inactionable”)

In the 90's there was a hit romcom called The Truth About Cats and Dogs which was a modern & gender swapped Cyrano retelling. Janeane Garofalo is the "ugly" host of a radio show and let's a guy she likes think she's Uma Thurman because she doesn't want him to be disappointed. My gen is fucked up.

Not that I want things to get worse but other countries are going to need to start telling us to fuck off. We are not entitled to Greenland or any other country jfc.

It's a toss up between the time I fell UP the stairs in the subway in college and bruised the entire right side of my body that lasted for weeks (concrete is no joke!) and last year when I slipped on a blueberry and nearly broke my knee. I'm a bit like a looney tunes characters sometimes.
What's the most ridiculous way you ever hurt yourself? I got out of the tub, skidded in water and tripped over the toilet. Ankle sprain.

::points:: This one. It really matters.
We are all in a state of constant panic and terror. It’s important to take a second when you see something online that triggers you to ask yourself “am it really triggered or am I just experiencing nonstop psychic damage from the world and my brain sees this as an outlet for my fear and rage.”

Yes! And also when it's all misty especially if you're headed into Pasadena. It's absolutely gorgeous Big Sky energy.

I love the Ice Planet Barbarian series of alien romance/erotica with giant blue aliens on a frozen planet. Not ironically, I straight up love this series & its follow ups Icehome & Ice Clones and the adjacent space series.
I am once again asking everyone to post more about the weird shit you like instead of joining ridiculous fights

Showed the kiddo how to make carmelized shallots. She's been trying a ton of new flavors lately. I want to thank @mbrobergmoffitt.bsky.social and his book Color, Taste, Texture because even though she's not as food averse as some other ND kids, the tips & recipes here are still so helpful!

Jfc, this is ahistorical brainrot. There is no such thing as "reverse colonization", "native citizenry" is a WILD fucking term to throw around in America with our history. As for "dissolving its empires & colonies" I might die laughing.
Eyes wide open, folks. They're revealing the supervillain plot.

Getting kind of concerned at how many people I'm seeing transferring onto stories/creatives the weight of the world. Like, almost literally. None of us are in a great head space right now and fiction cannot possibly solve the crisis we're in. We have to deal with that ourselves.
