I made a long-form comic book! It’s a romance! Teens fall in love! Hijinks! Transmasc non-binary love interest! Mother-daughter bonding! Idyllic wintry vibes! Five starred reviews from trade publications! bookshop.org/p/books/ange...

Let me tell you, my rosacea is VERY displeased with the abrupt weather shifts in LA right now.
It's going to be in the motherfucking 80s this week if you're wondering how it's going.

I'm in shorts and a tank top right now.

You have to go through all the "bad" art phases before you get good/comfortable with your own work. People want to be instantly "good" and "popular" at art and 1. that's not a thing 2. "popularity" in creative endeavors is not a good metric for creating or working on your skills.
Being unable to tolerate frustration + chasing social media clout gotta be a big reason why ppl jumped on the gen ai machine to churn out slop

This is my booth set up. I only had one wall up because the sun was right in my face. Normally I'd want to use more of the walls for extra display space but i also didn't want my neighbors to think i was rude since no one else used side walls. People said it was very cozy inside!

My two bestselling stickers were these two activism ones, which honestly was really touching. I'm donating the sales from both to local orgs who help trans youth and legal fees for immigrants. LA is still very much struggling with ICE.

Another print that sold well, Burble the Tea Monster. A lot of boys liked this one, too! I'm thinking about putting together a tiny story book for this guy and his friends for future stuff.

Victorian Market at the LA Arboretum was really lovely and made me feel like a "real" artist again. People were so kind and I sold so many prints and stickers and even originals. It was so sweet and encouraging. My "Cozylotls" axolotls were definitely the standout hit.

The anti-MAHA messaging really needs to play this up. Do you realize the infant mortality rate in the US less than 100 years ago was over 60 per 1000 births and now it's down to 5.47 per 1000.
Also formula is a medical miracle. Babies used to just fucking starve to death!

Folks, "breast is best" has been the rhetoric for my entire life but it's empty posturing. There's never any real policy to go with it that substantially supports new mothers and it also hinges on studies that actually show a nominal difference that goes away when other factors are introduced.

Every time we talk about comics industry treatment of freelancers, somebody among our ranks inevitably burrows out of the woodwork like, “Actually this is just how it is, don’t you know,” and I 🙄. Look. I can clearly observe that this is how it is. I still insist that things should be better.

👋 Breastfeeding & infant feeding expert here! All babies need safe, accessible nutrition. Most people already want to breastfeed and 84% start out doing so but can’t realize their goals. What we need are *policies* that make it possible to breastfeed for all who desire to do so and…
RFK Jr: "All of the ingenuity of corporate America has not produced an infant formula that is superior in nutrition and all the qualities that we want to the infant formula that God made, which is the infant formula in a mother's breast."

1. Without universal paid maternity/paternity leave this is a pointless "encouragement" without substance 2. "Breast is best" is shaming rhetoric rather than factual. Studies actually show the benefits to be nominal except for immunities. 3. Some of us couldn't breastfeed. 4. Fed is actually best.

But we would also have to deal with the women since 2016 and especially in 2020-2022 for the twenty seconds folks cared
How many white women aided by white men and “media” allowed for this and no change is being made now

And ..

That they actually start on lower class white girls first
we all have to get really uncomfortable about how many white women in media are terrible

And basically use Gamergate and the shitty behavior of everyone around it to not only steal resources

But also turn self victimized triangulation into a beat

and they start with white women

People talk about "over-regulation" without realizing that regulations exist all too frequently because someone (again, all too frequently a child) died because of this thing you think is SO BURDENSOME.
People don’t understand that stripping the guardrails of regulation and oversight doesn’t just apply to like better business bureau type shit but also like on a practical level when I get into an elevator I expect that it has passed a safety inspection & that type of security will be gone soon

Yuuup. And yeah, it's ridiculous but it's also just how they think.
tldr- white americans believe the american dream of 'if you struggle, then you'll eventually deserve/justify being rich and powerful", manufacture a struggle that makes them feel heroic, and are dogs chasing cars they never want to catch- which is why their enemies area always arbitrary and nebulous

This is really bad framing by NPR. Deciding to "uphold" it isn't actually SCOTUS's role, it's very clear in the Constitution. We're literally all birthright citizens starting at one gen or another, so it's fucking ludicrous on top of that. Also, yes I know this admin doesn't give an f.

I have a few Ebay alerts set up for things my kiddo collects that are harder to find, like older Monster High dolls, and I love when I get a notification for a lot of "accessories" and it's like clothes and random legs.

lol you'll never convince me a huge part of the reluctance isn't that there's no legal way to make UBI white-only.

Lotta white people in this country are happy to lose as long as nobody Black or brown wins.
I wish more people didn't get mad because "why can't I have $1000 a month for nothing!"
And instead went "why not universal basic income?"
