NYC is sweltering in record-shattering, deadly heat.

Oil baron John B. Hess contributed $500K to Andrew Cuomo.

Making Andrew Cuomo mayor will make NYC literally unlivable.
New York's mayoral race could decide the city's climate future
The nation's largest city has an ambitious plan to cut emissions. Mayoral frontrunners Andrew Cuomo and Zohran Mamdani could make or break it.

This “big, ugly bill” is dangerous and will destroy rural health care. In Kentucky alone, 35 hospitals are under the threat of closing, stripping care from families, cutting jobs and crippling local economies. 1/2

THEY LIED.

Hegseth, Gabbard & Ratcliffe claim no war plans were shared. But Trump officials did discuss military strikes on Signal—and even added a journalist to the chat.

Protestors were told the vote was getting pushed back a week and they seemed to have passed it only after the formal protest ended. The Ohio legislature has made it crystal clear that they will pursue whatever makes them alone more comfortable no matter how they achieve it. A bunch of cowards.

NOW: A large protest is taking place outside Ohio Statehouse to fight against SB1, the higher ed. overhaul bill.

Bill would
-end DEI, faculty strikes & tenure
-limit how "controversial" topics can be taught

The House is set to vote on it today.

I’m re-upping this to note:
- there is no longer a faculty diversity committee
- there is no longer a “law and equality” grad course requirement
- there are no more diversity or inclusion offices
- Tbd whether students will be able to have supportive affiliation groups
- tbd on curricular changes
As a late Friday pm valentine, faculty & staff received an email from University of Cincinnati President Pinto stating that Trump’s DoE has “effectively outlawed” DEI and that diktat is “sweeping in [its] scope, categorical in its conclusions & pressing in its timing.”

Okay so we are not at the point of developing AI where we should be talking about letting it run the federal government of the leading global economic and military power; But we ARE at the point where we should use it to make fake robo birds for my cat so he stops breaking everything I own.

This bill still has to go through the House and get the governor’s signature, all of which is very likely. It is deeply unpopular across the state. Please help us raise hell about it.
leaving this here:

"The bill, known as SB 1, would also establish post-tenure reviews, ban strikes by full-time faculty, and require colleges to publish a syllabus with the instructor’s professional qualifications and contact information for every class."

Yes because there is no bigger urban issue than low marriage and birth rates and don’t you dare mention redlining and anti-homeless infrastructure with housing crises and deteriorating water/sewer pipes and food/health deserts and urban heat and lack of public transit and lack of third spaces and-
The US DOT says it's planning to prioritize areas with high marriage & high birth rates for funding.

Our new analysis @urbaninstitute.bsky.social shows this would disproportionately fund:
—Communities with a higher white resident share
—Low-density areas
—High-income areas
—Car-dependent areas
DOT’s Plan to Distribute Funding by Birth and Marriage Rates Would Leave Communities Most In Need Behind
If enacted, the new US Department of Transportation memo would prioritize funding to whiter, higher-income, more car-dependent areas over communities of color and people who walk, bike, or take public...
