Did a recent Supreme Court decision take the first step to making public schools unconstitutional, I ask in this piece.
How the Supreme Court Is Making Public Education Itself Unconstitutional (Opinion)
In a recent ruling, the high court took a step toward effectively outlawing public schools.

This is a staggering amount of money. It’s bigger than the Department of Transportation spending on all infrastructure. It’s bigger than all of the federal R&D done for both the military and all federal science agencies. Disgusting.

Teachers don't need more tech. They need smaller classes and more (paid) time for prep and instruction. But alas, the tech option means more profit for billionaires, while the latter would cost billionaires more in taxes. And so, in our current kleptocracy, tech is what teachers are going to get...
🧵 addressing the argument: "AI won’t replace teachers, but it will save them time and make them more effective.”

Adding edtech doesn't necessarily save teachers time. A recent study found that LMSs sold to schools over the past decade+ as time-savers aren’t delivering on making teaching easier.
Technology is supposed to decrease teacher burnout – but we found it can sometimes make it worse
Efforts to simplify teachers’ jobs through technology can backfire without a strong focus on teacher well-being.

The assassination of a sitting congressperson and her husband should be headline news every day for the rest of this presidency.

Every single fucking day.
Mark and Melissa lie peacefully at the center of our state and our hearts today. Their memorial, guarded by service dogs and men and women in uniform, casts a momentary shadow over L'Étoile du Nord as we honor their life’s work to make Minnesota shine brighter for all.

This is exactly the right tone when privileged people suffer minor or temporary consequences standing up for powerless people. It’s still about the powerless people.

ICE is Gestapo trash.
"I'm happy to report I'm just fine. I lost a button. But I'm gonna sleep in my bed tonight, safe, with my family... At that elevator, I was separated from someone named Edgardo... Edgardo is in ICE detention and he's not going to sleep in his bed tonight."

if hochul is jumping on this story people in the democratic machine see the narrative here very clearly going in a specific direction.
NY Governor Kathy Hochul inside 26 Federal Plaza now, seeking answers from DHS/ICE about the arrest of NYC Comptroller Brad Lander, who is still being detained. @thecity.nyc "How long is this going to take, I don't think he has a long rap sheet," Hochul says to agents.

While we’re rallying around Lander, who’s been a lock for my top 2 as long as he’s been in the race, I love this video he did about disability access on NYC transit
Whether visible or invisible, permanent or temporary, almost all of us will have or know someone with a disability.

As Mayor, I’ll fight like hell for truly accessible public transit.

Just days ago, Brad Lander called me to interpret for an Arabic-speaking asylee whose case was approved, yet ICE was still harassing him inside the building. Brad personally escorted him out to safety. He does this kind of work quietly, every day.
Lander just got detained by federal agents as he tried to escort a man out of the courtroom. Lander was taken in an elevator with masked agents, along with one member of his NYPD security detail.

Notable how many different candidates for NYC mayor are coming together to support Lander for supporting New Yorkers targeted by ICE and which candidates evidently do not see themselves as part of the same movement or community
Not present: Eric Adams or Andrew Cuomo.

Yes, it would be a good stunt even if that's all it was -- but in fact Lander has been accompanying immigrants through the courts for weeks with no publicity because his presence typically helps prevent THEM from getting arrested
@bradlander.bsky.social has been regularly doing accompaniments and volunteering as a legal observer. ICE clearly singled him out to punish him for bringing attention to what they are doing. This is political persecution.
A reporter from The City had overheard one agent say to another minutes before Lander’s arrest, “Do you want to arrest the Comptroller?”

I deleted my other skeet because it was shared before Myrie spoke so I didn't know he was there

Mid-career shift for me as a teacher: realizing that how I return feedback to students is way more important than what the feedback actually is

In other words, no matter how much time/effort I spend on the feedback itself, it doesn't matter if I'm not intentional about how students receive it
