Why did Indiana University attack and cut its own student newspaper?

Well, in a twist of irony any English professor would call clichéd, it turns out IU did it because they were angry about the students' reporting on a FIRE report naming IU as the worst public university for free speech in the US.

i really resent the continued assertion that there’s so much anger on both sides, as if the causes of the anger are equally legitimate. we’re angry because masked maniacs are violently snatching our family and neighbors off the street, and they’re angry because we’re calling them out for it.

Also, I love toddlers because I don’t have any. They are these wonderful comical little people whom I get to return to their parents. They do not write think pieces.

Pundits are not:

A) small
B) funny
C) purveyors of popsicle stick jokes

I apologize for slandering toddlers

Any pundit type who posts things like “Ratio me, your anger shows I’m right!” gets a block because they clearly have that toddler brain “any attention is good attention“ issue and, to be clear, I am happily child-free

Also, calling someone's personal line to complain about them is unhinged. Calling a company's line to complain is normal, expected and entirely within a customer's rights. Anyone who can't understand this is infantile and doesn't need to be in a position of responsibility. Waffles.

tl;dr TOS and user bans are kept squishy and nonspecific to give sites wiggle room to selectively apply the rules (favoring celebrities, for example). The CEO wading in and shrieking that it is THEIR decision! THEIRS! You will not bully them! takes that fig leaf away and gives ownership to the CEO.

It’s becoming clear that one of the issues is that bluesky leadership never wanted to be running just another social media site. They seem to resent being reminded most of us don’t care about their vision of AT proto or decentralization, that we simply wanted bsky to be a better version of twitter.
Once again begging tech CEOs to stop ruining their social media platforms, I’m running out of places for people to see my work. 🫠

Hi! We've made the Put This In Your Ear Object. It is the ideal size and shape to put in your ear, feels really nice when you put it in your ear, and can be used to clean out earwax, by putting it in your ear. Just one thing, though. Under NO circumstances should you put this in your ear.
